Re: Contest 84: Flood the city
Painted it by hand tank hence so many layers! Although I did manage to get hold of some custom smoke brushes which made it a lot easier, saved a lot of masking and blending and dodge and burn and all that.

To be honest tank i only noticed your twister when you mentioned it, to distracted by the lightning. But its actually excellent, looks like its sucking up water, nice touch. Did you paint that by hand tank?.

Re: Contest 84: Flood the city
no. couldn't take credit for that. the original twister, however was very pixellated. so i did smooth it out with the brush quite a bit.

just like to say thanks to paul this week, realy got the forum going. And made me consider my own aproach of trying for realism at the expense of creativity and comedy.as shown by neal and mguyer.

Oops! I was just showing my attempt at this challenge to my daughter when I noticed that I had left a layer turned off. Not a biggie, but this is the way I wanted it to appear. Sorry about that!

Re: Contest 84: Flood the city
Ok, after taking a break from this thread for a couple of days and sulking because I didn't think I had it in me, I came back, read all the words of inspiration and realized I should give it a go. That and the answer on how to do this was right before me the entire time. I guess I should pay more attention to what I've read in the book before I say that I can't do something. Anyway, this is a simple swell of water as if a sunami came in from the English Channel. haha There was a strong wind that day making large ripples in the water as it quickly devoured the city.

Without a higher resolution picture, I found some of the detail work around the buildings a bit tough to make look realistic. Ok, no excuses...

Wow!! ... I do have to agree with Dalton ... This weeks challenge has produced some of the best work I've seen on here ... everyone should be feeling pretty pleased with their efforts this week ... I think the other thing that has been made so apparent by this challenge in particular is how imaginative all you guys are and how many different approaches there are to solving the same problem.
Excellent work guys ... keep it up

Ok, I get the message! As a retired senior, I'm not only entitled to be forgetful, I'm expected to be. And, as I get older, it becomes even easier to live up to that expectation. However, next time I mess up, I won't admit it, I'll just post a reworked or enhanced version instead.

Re: Contest 84: Flood the city
wow fantastic job to everyone and its only tuesday. There really are some brilliant examples of quality, imaganitivity, humour and flexibilty this week. I think Steve is going to have a very long chapter to write for this weeks comments, so much detail in them all. Everyone should give them selves a pat on the back.
