Ben, that is excellent. It has to be a winner. Then again, Neal's scene is such a laugh and well done on those shadows Neal - perfect.

I don't have much time for Photoshop at the moment, but I've made this in my spare time. It's a pircture from World of Warcraft, that I took some months ago, and someone has obviously gone to the wrong game...

By the way - the characters name is the first one, the one inside the <> (bracets?) is the guild-name. I thought it was funny, but I didn't have time to make him blend in 100%...

Re: Contest 116: Suburban spaceman
Many very fine entries - and some great subtlety this week.

Glen got in first, with a combination of this week's and last week's Challenges - and there's our spaceman at the front, with perfect shadow to match. Something about the lettering bothers me slightly: should it be sheared, rather than rotated?

A very clever cleaning scene from GKB, with many added shadows (I particularly like the one beneath the cord - and recognise the technique!). Some curious angles, though: the shadows should all be pointing in the same direction, since the sun's such a long way off! I like the recess where he's pushed the vacuum cleaner, but it doesn't seem to be having much effect. Perhaps it isn't turned on?

A good bit of spinning from David Urquhart, whose spaceman is really punching those disks. A good lighting effect behind him - and I'd love to have seen some of that reflected in his visor.

There's something really touching about Ben Mills' post: an absurdity here that's nonetheless extremely himan. Love the way all those hands are gripping the rail! And a great second entry, with our Urbance Spaceman (nice touch) riding the underground. Good touches include the poster behind him, and I do like the way the umbrella comes over the banner.

Very good tonal matching in jwhite's post - and this is harder to do in black and white than it is in colour. But shouldn't the spaceman have a floor reflection as well? A most entertaining second entry! Is that thing for real?

Great idea from james, who has resurrected an earlier Challenge with wit and flair. The shuttle looks small to me, though; I'd have tucked it either behind the building, or slightly in the clouds, to give it a sense of distance.

Dave.cox has given us an interesting piece of alien landscape destruction - the pink sky does the job well, and the colour of the ground and plants really helps. Good to see R2D2 nestling in the shrubbery there - and I'd really, really like one of those jetpacks. Shame they only work in space.

I like the idea of michael sinclair's spacemen finding Coke bottles on Mars - a good landscape, and two well matched spacemen. But... those shadows! If they're going to go over other foreground objects, such as the second spaceman and the Coke bottle, then they really have to bend over them!

meguyer's penchant for putting himself in the picture works well, as always: he fits nicely in the deep. I'm not sure the floor is convincing, though, especially with the small fish in the background breaking into it; better, I'd have thought, to put the figure at an angle so it looks like he's floating. And aren't the bubbles just a little fuzzy?

A great gag in Wayne's post, with good colouring on the two team shirts (and the referee) and some very nice angles. I'm sure you could have bent those legs apart more, though, to get one of them kicking the ball!

Tom has really got to grips with that old "make a model village' trick - and it does work well, doesn't it. The figure's just the right size - but isn't my head a touch small?

I do like the idea of spaceman as Mormon in John BoB's post - he fits well there. Now, if only we could get one hand knocking on the door...

A lovely bath scene from j.harvatt - what really tickled me here was the steamed-up visor with the face drawn on it. Great detail! It really makes the picture!

Another new member this week - and Toby has given our spaceman a novel mode of transport. Hey, I know Segways have a reputation for throwing people off, but that safety clothing's really going too far! A good stab at the shadow, but it's a little too soft and a little too opaque. A great first entry, though - welcome to the forum!

An entertaining mixed doubles match from Neal, with a fine shadow (although it should be a little more blue to match the other one) and a perfectly held tennis racquet. That must have been a tricky cutout!

I'm not really familiar with World of Warcraft, but funkyjalla's obviously a big fan. The lettering's perfect - but the spaceman seems rather over-contrasted here! Perhaps taking his overall brightness down would help?

A couple of space visitors in vibeke's post, and they do blend in perfectly: as ever, tucking them behind foreground features is the way to make a montage that much more convincing. The one on the upper balcony must have been a struggle!

A great Astroturf gag from Eggbox - is that place real? What on earth is it? Now, if only our spaceman were pushing a lawn mower...

Had to search tweaknik's post before I spottted it: what an excellent zip! Just what the spaceman needed! Perfect.

It must have been tough for Pierre to cram the spaceman into that mini - and why does it have Japanese number plates? A stunning shadow, though: the way it ripples over the surface of the sand is exceptional.

If you can't have a Segway, this is the next best thing... Sophie has put him on a scooter instead. You've had to distort that scooter quite a lot to follow the line of the road; better, I'd have thought, to have it crossing the road at a sharper angle. And when you flip a figure, watch out for the details like the US flag and the NASA logo!

A most entertaining week. Thank you all!

Having a crap in the woods obviously serious affects one's ability to work effectively in Photoshop, though...

Well spotted!

Thanks for your helpful feedback Steve. I have taken note of the flipping details. One thing I couldn't do very well was to stretch or make the fingers of spaceman wrap round the handlebars. It was kind of you not to comment on his mashed right hand. The cloning I tried wasn't very successful.

Steve, I'm to big a fan... WoW is taking up valuable Photoshop-time

I didn't have much time to fiddle with the blending, but thanks for the feedback on the text
