Challenge 445: Dinner by candlelight
A scene from the newly redesigned Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, this time with a splendid table setting. It's in a glass case, though, and on the wall behind is a portrait of the man to whom I assume the table and its contents once belonged (and I'm embarrassed to say I didn't make a note of who it was).

Can you bring him back to life and place him at the table? Perhaps with a couple of appropriate companions?

High res is here.

I felt that a couple of small tweaks were needed

Steve, you said that you failed to note the gentleman's name. The painting is by Thomas Gainsborough and is of an unknown man. The portrait dates from the mid-1750s when Gainsborough was living in Ipswich. It may represent a member of the Gibbs family, though this cannot be confirmed.

The other portrait is of Henrietta Vernon Lady Grosvenor, also by Gainsborough.

Sadly, Anna, Uncle Henry is now in a sulk and refuses to say ...

The steam and candle flames in your video are fantastic

I have really enjoyed this week's FC and I find that I keep coming back to it to add a little more.

'Pomeranian Bitch and Puppy' is also by Gainsborough and it was painted c.1777. The two dogs belonged to the musician Carl Friedrich Abel, the last of the great viola da gamba virtuosi.

I am impressed with everyone's images this week. Lack of time, inspiration and skill means I haven't attempted this week's challenge.

I thought the picture resembled Capt Cook, so went with a "Meeting of Capts" montage. Cheers Darren

This chess game will decide if Sir Gibbs' youngest son must dress in a style more becoming to his station, or if he will be allowed to continue being an embarrassment.......

I know there's tons of mistakes here, but that's what happens when I just squeeze under the deadline.......my bad!
