Challenge 503: Fill the fountain

I was in Paris for Easter, where I went to the outstanding Bill Viola exhibition at the Grand Palais. Outside the entrance is this rather splendid fountain.

Well, it would be splendid if it had water in it. Can you oblige?

I had difficulty trying to show splash marks on the dry concrete back wall of the pool behind the dog.

Daniel,

Switch to quick mask and use a small-ish sharp edged brush to paint in your splash marks and a ring above the water line. Switch off quick mask and you will be left with a selection. Cmd / Ctrl-J to copy that selection to a new layer. Now use a Curves adjustment layer to darken the selection slightly and you now have a 'wet' poolside.

Not sure why I added the people as I cannot decide how big they should be. This is the fourth version! (Thank goodness for Smart objects!). I drew an horizon using the building but that came in much higher than the two people in the distance. If I use their eye-line as the horizon the new people look small. Decided to go for this one - and find out how it should have been done on Friday.

I got completely carried away here, and spent far too much time that I really should have been using more sensibly.

Some time ago I had the misfortune to spend the best part of two months working in Las Vegas - a veritable temple to commerce, kitsch and generally dodgy taste. I guess this is getting it out of my system .....
