Challenge 688: The hotel hallway
I had occasion to stay once again in the hotel with the curious dumb waiter (as seen in the Challenge now lost in the two-year chasm of forgetfulness) and was once again intrigued by its quirkiness.

This time, I was fascinated by the placement of this chair in the hallway. Now as everyone knows, nobody every sits in the chairs in hotel hallways. Nonetheless, the position of this one beneath that water tap seemed particularly bizarre.

Unless there's a purpose for it after all?

High res is High res is here.

I don't want to be unkind Steve but, as someone who has spent half his working life living in hotels, this one looks seriously frayed and shabby. Reminds me of the old British railway hotels of my youth. The one's that had communal bathrooms and toilets down the corridor.

........ and you went back there .....?

It's a charming hotel, but with more than a touch of Fawlty Towers to it. It was built in the 12th century and remodelled in the 17th, and could probably do with another bout of modernisation.

For anyone who is old enough to remember, here is the other dumb waiter challenge

Which gives me a suitably bizarre and Belgian idea ........

In keeping with Steve's suggestion the hotel has had some modernisation and the dumbwaiter is now hydraulic!

Very nice David. Those chairs are definitely rigged.

In a time when natural resources are dwindling, heating of apartment blocks is becoming more and more expensive. Don't waste methane gas.

Sign above fire extinguisher reads...."In case of back flash, use fire extinguisher." Small print reads...."In case extinguisher is empty, use coffin."

Those chairs are truly and utterly shabby. I say people - many, many people over many, many years - have been sitting in those chairs. The one on the other side of the cabinet looks as if it's been sat in since 1968. The one closest to us looks like a cat has been at the arm rests.

And, I wager, a visit from an exterminator.

I may have stayed in that hotel... on a different floor perhaps.

Michael Sinclair would like it to be known that he will not make any comment on the "ambiance" of this quaint hotel, but would like to agree with Trump on his most recent outrageous comment concerning the hotel.

UPDATED from a 15 framer to a 30 framer for smoother continuity

NOTE: same JCB from an earlier entry some months ago, but different rubbish dump and road

Re: Challenge 688: The hotel hallway
Thank you Michael. As soon as I saw the hallway I made a call to the local emergency decorator. He interrupted his tea break to get it fixed.

Well thank you.

Love your small touches. The spinning beach ball and the spreading puddle.
