Challenge 804: Dining in style
I photographed this dining room at the splendid Oxburgh Hall back in the days when people were allowed to go out to such places.

The scene could do with a few dinner guests, I feel. Who would you invite?

High res is here.

Wide-angle lenses. Necessary but too often ugly.

When needs must Steve .... well that's what you usually say.

Strangely I find it quite interesting in this instant. (Your photo, that is to say.)

I know this is a museum exhibit rather than a functional table setting but can anyone tell me the reason for one wine glass tilted inside another?

Is this just creative fantasy? Museums and such like usually have an underlying historical justification for their displays.

I probably won't have time for a submission this week, but maybe things will change.

Shades of PG Tips Gordon. This is fun!

I really like the black and white ending much better than the semi coloured front half.

I think it's a great shame the left hand chimp is animated while the other two are real. I am presuming the difficulty was to find live action that would fit this particular profile position.

Thank you for the smile.

If you are wondering what this rather odd historically impossible gathering is about you need to go here.

You will find something really quite extraordinary!

Apologies for the liberty Steve.

Re: Challenge 804: Dining in style
Thanks David.

Yes I couldn’t find a chimp filmed from the side that was suitable. I also wanted an ape walking in the background as a waiter carrying a tray but, again, couldn’t find anything suitable. Just use your imagination.

I toyed with the idea of doing the whole video in black and white but went with the partially coloured version.

So here it is in total black and white. So who prefers which version?

Re: Challenge 804: Dining in style
I vote for black and white (in which case the tea accessories need clipping a bit).

I have to confess that this preference is not unbiased. I have a certain fondness for the old PG Tips spots which were for the most part in black and white.

I shot a couple of them and, sadly, the shooting is a lot less funny than the end result. The baring of the teeth in a smile actually denotes distress. The chimps came with a couple who had been doing it too long. They had completely lost patience with the poor chimps and treated them rather badly.

The only upside was that they had also lost patience with each other and spent the shoots screaming at each other in, occasionally, incredibly foul language. Once you got over the shock it was impossible to keep a straight face.

Re: Challenge 804: Dining in style
Thanks David, Vibeke and Michael. My own favourite is also the black and white version; it takes me back to the sixpenny seats on a Saturday morning watching Hopalong Cassidy and Flash Gordon (no relation)
