Challenge 849: The house they left behind
The seaside town of St George de Didonne has much to recommend it, including a fine network of caves that featured in a Friday Challenge back in 2013. This week we're looking at this once-elegant townhouse, which I imagine must have been part of a terrace at one point. But what happened to the buildings either side? Can you replicate them? And perhaps open a few shutters? High res is here. |

Something odd is going on. Last weeks challenge is back again but now our remarks on this one have disappeared ............ _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 849: The house they left behind
Weird stuff going on with the forum, which resulted in losing the comments already posted on this Challenge. Sorry about that. If you want the details… Forum posts will, by default, rise to the top of the list every time a new comment is added. To stop the inadvertent reordering of Friday Challenges this would cause, I mark each new Challenge as “Sticky”, which forces it to the top of the list. Somehow challenge 848 lost its Sticky status, which means it was still on the Forum but appeared on page 75, after all the Sticky challenges. I made it Sticky again, but then it appeared above Challenge 849. So I made Challenge 849 Unsticky, which pushed it to the end, and in theory if I’d made it Sticky again it should then have regained its rightful place at the top of the list. But for some reason it refuses to become sticky. So here it is again. Feel free to add your comments once more! |

I'll take that on trust I think!!! My missing comment was really just intended for you so, if you saw it, it probably isn't worth re-posting. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 849: The house they left behind
OK. Here 't is. In Wallonie the southern French part of Belgium houses like this are a common site in villages and small towns. Sticking up like a lone tooth, tall narrow and deep at the base these odd looking houses are built like this. Here is picture of one I took a while back. Given that your house is on a corner with windows on the side I wonder if it is of a similar nature and was always independent. When I posted this originally Mariner pointed out that it could have been an end of terrace house which is absolutely true. Whichever way it's decidedly odd. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 849: The house they left behind
I spent so much time on last week's entry that this week is a simple quickie. Never let be said that DavidMac is afraid of the predictably obvious. The shuttered and boarded house in the centre belongs to a middle aged English couple who were planning to renovate it for their retirement. 'Grace au Brexit' they are unlikely any longer to qualify for permanent residency. It is now, sadly, an abandoned project. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 849: The house they left behind
In the South East of India is a town called Pondicherry. It is the last remnant of what was once the only French possession in India. The old French quarter has echoes of French architecture in a tropical setting. A primary school now exists in what was once a cinema and still has a faded Pathé cockerel painted on the wall. Your image with its tropical overtones took me straight back there. Thank you! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 849: The house they left behind
I am not entirely convinced that this house was part of a row of terraces. But nevertheless, it works well in Photoshop once it's terraced That's a wonderful scene David. Ben, I like the ivy and just out of curiosity - who is Mr Cut out? http://vimeo.com/527094517 _________________ Wicked Witch of the West:I'll get you, my pretty! And your little dog, too! |

Don't know what happened there but I've just repasted it. Hopefully it will be ok now. _________________ Wicked Witch of the West: I'm melting! I'm melting! |

The $%&&***!!! perspective! The verkakte shadows! The owners got so fed up they took out all the shutters and had new windows installed instead _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |
