Challenge 865: A day at the races
I visited Newmarket racecourse recently (no, not for the racing, they had an antiques fair on) and was intrigued by the main entrance. It seems a horse path runs directly in front of it, and I imagine they close the gates when the horses are using it. You know what to do. Michael Sinclair, I expect cavalry. High res is here. ![]() |

"A Day at the races" is of course a great classic movie. This is one of those terrible remakes otherwise known as "Bad Acting III" ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Here he is .............. I don't know if it was your intention Steve but manipulating those gates with their wire mesh and restoring behind them and through the mesh is the stuff of nightmares. Not complaining ......... but lots of pain for little gain. ![]() ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 865: A day at the races
I was so done by the time I had coped with rebuilding the background that I simply didn't have the energy or patience to colourise black and white photos of the Marx brothers! They belong firmly in the the black and white era anyway. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 865: A day at the races
Just realised I did this really stupidly. Instead of painstakingly cutting out the spaces between the wires, which I did, I should have cut out the entire space leaving just the woodwork and simply re-drawn the wires afterwards. I could have made one 'flat' orthogonal wire grid and placed and shaped it to the perspective accordingly. Little hint to anyone else struggling with this. Try and be a wee bit cleverer than I was! ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Did I hear the word "cavalry" coming from the direction of the site owner? Well I don't mind if I do! Therefore, I'm playing the Napoleon "Gold card" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Challenge 865: A day at the races
Wow, nice entries everyone. Had some time to burn ( not a pun used lightly in South Africa at the moment ) so I went to the races to. Don't know why I chose to mix 3D and 2D cause strangely enough, this took ages and served many challenges. Although the horse-way looks wide, in 3D space, I only just had enough room between the fore and background plain to fit the models. The riders crop was approximately 15 degrees right from straight forward and the tip was sticking through the front gate. The horse's left flank is virtually touching the back ground plain. I tried a touch of animation aswell but we won't discuss that so hats off to all you sneaky folk who post such convincing video clips. Anyway, think of us in S.A. It's bad out there. The community has been guarding our Mall for 3 days. Food and supplies are low. Start preparing parcels for us...lol. Never seen so many dirty, thieving savages! Do you want a race tip? "Hotchips is favorite!" ![]() _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Re: Challenge 865: A day at the races
![]() Not in the habit of going to races, but in the middle of the night, I remembered a fun race course I went to in Samoa quite a few years ago All photos used (apart from the Bourgonvillia) is from that day. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Very good, Vibeke! By the way, Vibeke, how do you pronounce your first name? I think it's probably Vib-er-ker, with the Vib as in nib. |

Re: Challenge 865: A day at the races
Thank you, Michael, I had fun with this one. My biggest problem is always getting an idea. I guess the best way to explain my name is to say it's like Rebecca with a V. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |
