Challenge 893: Strawberry Hill House
I visited the stunning gothic fantasy that is Strawberry Hill House on Sunday. It was built in the 1780s by Horace Walpole, author of The Castle of Otranto (the first Gothic novel) and son of Britain's first Prime Minister, Robert Walpole.

Here's Horace's bedroom, sadly devoid of bed. And here's Horace, too. Can you reimagine the room as it might have appeared when he slept in it?

High res are here and here.

Once again time this month dictates a very simple quickie.

Re: Challenge 893: Strawberry Hill House
Thank you Michael. This one really is simple. Just five elements: background photo, bed, burning grate, man in nightshirt and Walpole's face. It's really is the simplest composite possible. The rest is just lighting effects and I can sort of do those on autopilot.

Doubtless Steve's eagle eye will spot some elementary oversight I have missed in my hurry.

I remember reading The Castle of Otranto and thinking it the biggest pile of piffle

A bizarre welding accident gives Walpole the idea for a new novel.

David, "simple" ? but stupendously effective: you hit the brief 100%! Excellent!

Tony, it must of been very difficult to make this "scumbag" of a picture any worse. Did you know Strawberry Hill house has many exquisite rooms; however, we can always rely on the site owner to secure --unerringly-- the seediest of rooms.

I had to go and look up more about the novel (which I have never read) to understand this.

Ant, as always you take a totally unexpected direction. I do like.

Michael thank you. Sometimes really simple works best.

Yes, Michael, he does it on purpose. I see it as a challenge to make a bad photo look good.

Steve's just there as a visitor with his phone as camera. I think you are both being a little harsh. Frankly "good" or "bad" in the original photo is of little relevance. It's meant as a subject - not a finished image. It's how we choose to deal with it that counts.

That's a very ingenious kaleidoscopic background.
