Challenge 926: The cabin in the woods
I photographed this cabin in the museum in Krakow. It's a rather fine wood construction, but the roof has been truncated and the setting is, well, a museum. Can you move it to a more appropriate location? High res is here. |

Why on earth the mirrored ceiling? It would seem to confuse and detract from the exhibit rather than add anything. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 926: The cabin in the woods
A POST CARD FROM EASTERN EUROPE A word or two of explanation for the non Brits. In the 1940's and 50's in Britain a popular holiday destination for what was then referred to as the 'working classes' was a chain of holiday camp's called Butlins. Accommodation was in often in rows of identical streets filled with identical 'chalets'. They had a very down market image. Largely eclipsed by cheap air travel and package holidays they do still exist in a few places. Although vastly improved I think it fair to say that they have never really shaken off their down market image. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 926: The cabin in the woods
Took me a while Loyd. Thanks Michael. The hardest thing in this challenge was getting ride of the vivid sodium lighting in places. It proved to be very difficult and needed several different tries in different ways. Interesting to see that so far Ant and Loyd have managed to deal with this is by finding settings in which it works more or less as it is. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Yes, I had a lot of trouble with that. Finally gave up and rebuilt the cabin completely. Like you, I have changed the viewing angle a bit. |

The moose is a 'he' Michael, as is the woodpecker and the fox... David, the forest background used is one of my own photos from last September, so I didn't have to search very far... |

Re: Challenge 926: The cabin in the woods
I have been wanting to make a snowy animation for quite a while, finally an opportunity... "cabin in the woods" just calls out for snow... Granted, I only used the doorway from the starting image but I liked this cabin for the snow. |

Re: Challenge 926: The cabin in the woods
David very clever Loyd I like you last entry--the smoke is realistic. Gentlemen and Ladies, girls and boys, I have tested positive on Thursday forCOVID. Typically, the day might start well, but the sh*tty, and cr*ppy period creeps in later; however, when, I don't feel so unwell I try to work on my entry. I created two locomotive layers for each frame to illustrate the movement of smoke; however, this is not readily noticeable. I had originally intended for another American steam train to come in the opposite direction; regretfully, I neither had the time nor file space (20mb limit) to do more than 80 frames. |

Re: Challenge 926: The cabin in the woods
Oh Michael! Get well soon. It's not a lot of fun! More interesting and varied entries. I decided this time, instead of moaning about the horrible yellow light, I should do what others have done and find a way to exploit it. And who better to occupy this rustic abode than my old friends ......... _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 926: The cabin in the woods
I dealt with this problem by selecting the yellow-ish lighting and putting it on its own layer. Then I used a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. I selected colourise and moved the Hue control nearly all the way to the left. Then I tweaked the saturation to remove some of the colour followed by darkening it down. After that I masked around the edge with a very soft brush to blend it into the rest of the log wall. Hope that helps. Michael I hope your COVID is short and not too nasty. A few people in my village have it but I haven't heard of anything too bad. Nice work from everyone again. _________________ Always remember that you are unique - just like everyone else. |
