Challenge 931: The Duke of Cumberland
I was cycling through central London recently when I came across this statue of Prince William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland. Or rather, his plinth - the Duke seems to have disappeared. My researches tell me that Prince William was best known for his suppression of the Jacobite Rising at the Battle of Culloden in 1746, a bloody conflict which earned him the nickname ‘Butcher Cumberland’. Can you suggest an appropriate memorial to replace the missing statue? High res is here. |

Some ‘interesting’ lighting on this one. _________________ Have you ever noticed that all the instruments designed to detect intelligent life are pointing away from the Earth? |

Just took a quick look at some images. Seems that soft and pudgy doesn't necessarily mean ineffective or cuddly! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Cumberland isn't someone who is fondly remembered in Scottish history. _________________ |

Thank you Michael. At this res the inscription on my second entry is hard to read. It says - Removing this statue allows people to forget or never know this man was a war criminal a murderer. He who controls the past, controls the future, George Orwell. See plaque for details. |

Ben, you could do worse than opening an account (free) at flickr.com. This would allow you to post huge files to HtCiP, which means your tiny writing would be easily visible (see my last picture of the railway station). If you need help doing this just ask. |

Nice work everybody. If time permits, I'll increase the frames from 84 to 150 plus later in the week I see the "Duke" has his ardent supporters around him. |
