Challenger 958: The flood wall
A lot of effort has gone into the construction of this flood wall, but so far it seems to have no point. Can you add some water so we can see if it works? High res is here. ![]() |

Well Steve, I had to try AI and possibly opening pandora's box here is the result - all created by AI with some minor color tweaking and of course selections. ![]() |

Amazing, Frank. Pandora's box...yes. I don't think I shall be using AI in the forseeable future. I prefer to use my own RLI (Rather Limitied Intellignece) as I take great pleasure in creating my own scenarios, however unnatural they may be. Affinity Photo, my preferred Photoshop imitator, does not yet have AI built in. I might have a look at ChatGPT and see what it can do, but maybe it's not a good idea to let it have my ip address. And perhaps I am just being paranoid. |

Re: Challenger 958: The flood wall
Mariner- agree, I do not plan on using AI to any large extent and certainly not as my own work or idea(s). In this case it did a remarkable job in my opinion - had to give it a try. Like you, I prefer to create my own scenarios. |

Interesting Frank... I can't compete with that. I've a couple of hours invested in this animation and unless I can think of something silly it may be the end for me this week. ![]() |

Re: Challenger 958: The flood wall
Well this has proved very interesting and somewhat sobering. I decided to start by finding out what I could do completely unaided without any AI at all. I have not been to Steve's review to see his AI results because I wanted to approach this without any preconceptions. I do remember from when I first looked at it a week ago that the results were impressive but can remember no more than that. Part of the difficulty with this image is that everything in the image is of a similar grassy texture so it's hard to distinguish reflections from surroundings and make them 'pop'. Anyway here are two attempts. The second is in all respects the same as the first except that I have tried to preserve some of the foreground by creating a mask from the blue channel - with very limited success it must be said. All in all this very simple looking image represents close to three hours work, a surprising amount of which was spent simply trying variations in reflection colour and density. ![]() ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenger 958: The flood wall
Here's another take, still all by hand with no AI assistance. I had previously conceived the background as quite a steep bank and thus reflecting in the water. On closer examination I think this is probably mistaken and that it is flatter than I had previously thought thus allowing much more sky to reflect. I have also experimented with different colouring in the water. Some of this was built on the basis of the previous image but most is new and represents about another two hours of work, a good portion of which was building the duck take off. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

I have to admit, that I'm fascinated by AI and what you can do in Photoshop. This is all AI, I apologise to the purists. ![]() _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Dang Loyd! Muddy was to be my next attempt! Very nice Ben. Oh I'll be getting round to AI later in the week Vibeke. I'm dead curious! But I want to do my own thing first without preconceptions. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenger 958: The flood wall
Good to see you back Vibeke. Sorry I mistook your entry for Anna. Apologies. Now corrected. ![]() Micheal I find the added plantations very convincing but there's something about the water's edge doesn't really convince me. Well up to your usual standards Frank. I really like it. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
