Challenge 962: The submarine base
My main reason for visiting La Rochelle port on its open day was to see inside the submarine base. Built in secret during the war, it's a vast concrete construction where German subs were fitted out and repaired. It was made to withstand bombing raid, with a seven metre thick concrete roof. And that's why it's still there: it's impossible to demolish.

This is one of the bays that held subs. I don't know what sort of vessel that is, but it should be a submarine.

Apologies for the lighting, it was a very difficult photo to take.

High res is here.

Re: Challenge 962: The submarine base
I don't know how Gordon managed it .... especially so quickly. But after well over two hours of web searching I haven't found one single U Boat image even remotely capable of fitting the confined perspective of this tunnel except one completely fuzzy old black and white. Pixel squid has a U Boat but its incredibly lo res and quite unusable.

So unless I can can up with some other idea completely I shall probably sit this one out.

Agree with David, hard to find anything suitable.
Good fit Gordon

Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in Raider's of the Lost Ark... at one point there are scenes in a submarine port, could have been this one.

Re: Challenge 962: The submarine base
Dear unhappy bunny might I make a suggestion: either get the transform tool or the Perspective Warp tool and make those wall(s) horizontal, or indeed make a horizontal facsimile of them. and then get subs (any subs) that are likewise. I hope this helps.

Dear unhappy bunnies, Michael is right. Don't fit the sub to the walls, fit the walls to the sub.

And whie you are at it, give 'em some spit and polish!

Re: Challenge 962: The submarine base
Having written that, after further experimentation I think I probably got it wrong. It is very difficult to adjust the walls in a convincing way. I am still working on it.

Re: Challenge 962: The submarine base
Both Michaels advocating don't raise the bridge ..... lower the river.

Hmmm. I've always been a bit of a stickler for sticking to the challenge image. But that really does make sense.

I haven't played with the idea yet. But I would imagine that one of the difficulties Mariner may have encountered is that, with a parallel tunnel, opening out the walls is going to create a very wedge shaped forced perspective. Certainly it's going to need to be done discreetly.

Taking things to the degree of making walls horizontal somewhat defeats the purpose of the challenge image. I might as well just go and find a different picture to use entirely. That has never sat comfortably with me. I have always felt the supplied image should be the core of whatever I submit.

However, all that said and done, in this case I think I am going to have to take a much more liberal approach for once.

Today's busy. Sunday project ........

Pinched lwc's composition to get rid of that inconvenient sub and was inspired by David's filmic look ...et voila!
For non-movie buffs it is a tribute to film classic and all time great The Third Man
