Wow, Michael! How on earth did you manage to rebuild it?

Thank you all for your comments

Anna, I searched for pictures of La Rochelle AND fire and soon found an article in the Daily Mail reporting a fire in the town hall in June 2013. Then I used Google Earth to plod around the streets near the town hall until I found the spot where the fire engines had been. It was at 3 Rue de la Grille. I took a dozen snapshots of the buildings from all angles so I could put together a composite.. After that I had to find out exactly what sort of fire engine the leader was (Renault 2D) and then search for a Renault 2D with a nearly front view. I failed on that so I had to rebuild something from what I had.
All in all it was fascinating to do all this and kept me entertained for days.

Well done Mariner. I stumble upon a fire engine 3D modeler that makes stunning models of all types of fire engines. Wish I could find out how to download them. Here's a very similar model to the one in the photo.

Steve, on this guys FB page, there's a video of a warehouse that houses 150 plus vintage fire engines. A place you would love to visit. It doesn't mention where it is though. Worth some research.

Well my 'high drama' is looking lower and lower. Some great action filled entries this week!

Maybe this can help Mariner. It's a G230 though. I can't get into the interior of the model to color it. I don't have the right programs at work.
I did manage to color co-ordinate it in AccuTrans..((have a look at AccuTrans David, Anna, Frank)…great for converting model and many other things.)) and colored it in Daz.

I got it from this site. Plenty free 3d models of many different vehicles.

Thanks Dennis, but the job's done.

This is a Renault D fire truck. The one I was looking for has a square grill at the front

Frank, David, and Dennis realistic renditions

Anna. absolutely stunning! Absolutely professional--one of your best By the way would you like to tell uncle Mike where you got that explosion from?

Michael...wow you do like to do things the hard way---how original and brilliant!

I believe a famous and world-renowned Photoshop author, and illustrator mentioned "Fire Engine"

Entitled Forest fire

That's impressive detective work. Well done.

Re: Challenge 969: Light my fire
First to address the street this week was dwindt, who has not only patched the dodgy section of wall where I forgot to crop after straightening the image, but has also removed all the people – an expert piece of reconstruction. The cast of thousands in the second entry is splendid, with so much action going on here. I really like the rainbow haze around the water spray at the top of the ladder.

High drama indeed from DavidMac, with the sapeurs pompiers in full swing. I like the stretcher bring wheeled away – all very convincing. the crowd on the left, with the added French policeman monitoring them, are excellent.

It seems lwc is giving us a clue as to how the fire started, with an unfortunate fireman standing in exactly the wrong place. Don’t these people get anti-dragon training? The Benny Hill version recalls the 1970s low point of British comedy… the rising sparks and heat haze are especially good.

A packed scene from Frank, with flames shooting out of almost every window. I like the adapted side of the fire engine, the raised ladder and the road closure sign, and of course the assorted firemen rushing about. Oh, and the water shooter. All very impressive.

A massive explosion from tooquilos, set in an apocalyptic haze – and does the sign mean this is now the fire station itself? An amazing amount of destruction in the animated version, with a wrecked and blazing fire engine and a massive hole blown in the side of the building. Wow! Fabulous.

Plenty of people leaping to their doom in Ant Snell’s entry, with one poor unfortunate fully ablaze. I like the man hanging from the gargoyle water spout. What’s the French for “the end is nigh”?

An astonishing rebuild from Mariner, with a new ground floor and the fire engine moved to the left. And your account of finding the building on Street View is extraordinary – what expert patching to come up with such a seamless result. Outstanding! My only issue is with the angle of the fire engine, which doesn’t seem to match the perspective of the street – the top and bottom are angled the wrong way. Easy enough to fix:

It took me a while to spot Josephine Harvatt’s cat on the window ledge – and of course, what’s a window ledge without its cat. Although this one does seem to be a particularly vast animal!

It never fails to surprise me how often michael sinclair likes to recreate exactly the same scene, with different vehicles and backgrounds. Still, at least it’s a clear blue sky rather than the trademark frantic clouds.
