Challenge 982: Pick up a penguin
I realise the title of this week's Challenge will mean nothing to those who weren't watching TV in the UK in the 1970s. I photographed these aquatic birds in Birmingham aquarium last weekend, and it was interesting to see how these clumsy creatures became so graceful when underwater.

Can you move them out of this fibreglass setting into a more appropriate landscape?

High res is here.

The poster is genuine McVitie's packaging.

Re: Challenge 982: Pick up a penguin
Good starts David and Loyd. However, Loyd don't you think that's a bit of a cheat not to see the penguin waddle with its feet, or at least see it on its skateboard? Moreover, I do believe Mr MacDonald will have something to say about that polar bear shortly!

I do like the snowmobile, or whatever it's called?

It's a Snowcat... or Sno-cat if you prefer.

Phew! flipping hell! Is there anyone else in the forum who would like to say the obvious about the polar bear?

I have no idea what you mean Michael, perhaps you should state the 'obvious'...

Yeah, why are you picking on polar bears Michael? I hope you won’t be picking on the giraffe in my entry.

I saw this challenge and remembered the time I spent in Antarctica, so that made it easier!

My attempt to be humorous has gone awry. My apologies for giving the wrong impression of picking on Loyd, or indeed anyone.

The obvious: polar bears belong to the Northern Hemisphere (the Arctic to be precise), and....penguins belong to the Southern Hemisphere (the Antarctic to be precise).

No need to apologize Michael, call it 'artistic license' on my part. You are quite right of course, but I've had the animated polar bear for years and the number of opportunities that arise and be able to use it in a Friday Challenge are extremely rare... so I used it.

I was convinced it was an anemic moose...

Oh Michael! I was well aware what you were getting at.

I thought it would be equally obvious that my silly and facetious answer was a gentle wind up. I really didn't expect it to be taken at face value ............

Sorrreeeeee!

The moment I saw it, that was my instant reaction!

The question is why is it so obvious!?

I know you are perfectly capable of producing something just as accomplished so it's definitely not a question of "Loyd couldn't have done that himself". It's something far more subtle but I am not sure what.

Is it perhaps because it is almost too steam punk? It's almost a caricature. All the usual hackneyed overdone symbols are there: the high collar leather jacket, the brass/bronze finish, the top hat with its dials and mechanical accoutrements, the timepiece round the neck and, of course, the mandatory aviator goggles.

It's, somehow, too predictable.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
