Challenge 1053: Art and anti-art
On Monday I went to Paris to see the David Hockney exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton gallery. It's a truly extraordinary building, designed by Frank Gehry on one of his more exuberant days, and the exhibition itself was glorious.

In the grounds in front of the building, though, is this vast, gaudy sculpture portraying a pair of hideous childish figures mounted on an oversized Louis Vuitton case. It's quite possibly the most vulgar artwork I've ever had the misfortune to witness.

Please, replace it with something else. Anything else.

High res is here.

Hi Steve, my research shows it was designed by Frank Gehry, a Canadian-American architect known for his bold, deconstructivist architecture (such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain).

Absolutely right – and not Frank Lloyd Wright at all. Corrected.

Beat me to it Ben! I stayed in a wonderful flowing hotel designed by him in the winery of Marques de Riscal in Spain.

I have to confess to total ignorance until now but it turns out that the Murakami sunflower is a symbol of modern Japanese art and culture.

Very apt Ben.

I think getting out of US is less risky than getting back in ........

David, I'm surprised you didn't do this. You're normally quick on the obvious for your first image. I'm glad you didn't...lol.
Ah, that's where Ben was last week. Bass fishing.

After three false starts, I finally managed to cobble something together...

Not animated.

It's my obtuse day today. It took me an embarrassingly long time to get it!

It's one of those "See that nail? ...... when I nod my head hit it!" jokes.

Re: Challenge 1053: Art and anti-art
It seems it is still my obtuse day. I kept looking at Loyds Canon entry and thinking "There's something terribly familiar about that face. I know I've seen it somewhere before." I was actually just about to do a reverse picture search when the very slow and late penny finally dropped! You've had a haircut since your last picture.

It's not only my obtuse day it's also my sculpture and popular art discovery week. First Murukami and then Gillie and Marc Schattner. I didn't know any of them.

Well lots of fun already this week. I was frightened it might be rather dull. How nice to be wrong!

Re: Challenge 1053: Art and anti-art
Now it's my triply obtuse day! For a professional cameraman this is really embarrassing .........

Looking again at Loyd's photo I noticed that his camera has a "NON ZOOM LENS".

What? What the hell is a non zoom lens? How is it different from a fixed lens? Is this some kind of new terminology?

This time I actually did go online to find out and looked up Canon G7X to see if I could find the answer to the mystery.

I did .........................

Time to go back to bed David.

Non-zoom...lol. For some fixed is also known as a 'prime' lens.

Some might say that this is the most likely (obvious) entry for me.
