Challenge 1066: Battle Royale
There are three 66 dates that resonate with every red-blooded (and, indeed, blue-blooded) Englishman (and, indeed, Englishwoman (and, indeed, Englishperson of indeterminate gender)). In reverse chronological order:

1966, the year England won the World Cup;
1666, the date of the Great Fire of London;
1066, the Norman invasion of England at Hastings.

Would it be asking the impossible to incorporate all these 66 events in a single image? You'll have to source your own reference pics, I wouldn't know where to start.

Re: Challenge 1066: Battle Royale
I have Edmund Blair Leighton (1852 – 1922) to thank for this week’s picture, which is a combination of The Hostage and The Shadow. While searching for a common theme I came across Leighton on the net and was especially impressed by his realism and his lifelike painting of The Accolade, and many others.
The Great Fire of London destroyed most of London, including Saint Paul’s Cathedral, and would have done the same to the Tower of London if the army hadn’t torn down the nearby houses. The so-called “Bloody Tower” was built on the orders of William I, “The Conqueror”, and for many years now has been the guardian of the Crown Jewels, which I viewed when I was in my teens.

Lovely stuff from you all, and all in your own distinctive styles. Steve looks very unsure of his time machine ........ the medals as shields are just brilliant.

I had this really simple little idea I thought would be a breeze. Wrong! It proved to be horribly fiddly. But it's kind of fun. Because of the long banner shape you definitely need to zoom right in to read stuff and so on.

(If any soccer purists want to take me to task for the brown ball, the black and white hexagonal chequerboard didn't come into play until a few years later. It was designed specifically to be TV visible.)

It's his first time trip.

You should carry your banner a step further, I can easily see a version of it as a banner for the forum.

It's great to be back after a short break.

I love what you did with the tapestry, David. The shields are very well done, Loyd.

I have only just spotted a really stupid mistake in my banner. It's been posted for two days already so I am not going to change it. Let's see if Mr Eagle Eye spots it. He knows to look now ................

Yes, David. You have put 1665 instead of 1666. Whoops! No big deal.

There is a Roman numeral converter here:

Just for a laugh, get it to convert one million into Roman!

I was struggling for a bit for an idea on this one, then while combining my other hobby, it came to me like a pint of amber nectar.

The really silly thing is I knew exactly what it was supposed to be. It's not mathematics to blame ..... it's my usual Photoshop 'not seeing the wood for the trees' and getting so tied up in my image that something else completely obvious slips unnoticed straight through the net and I quite simply missed putting the "I" there.
