Challenge 1069: Medieval banking
This summer I visited the astonishing Puy du Fou historical theme park near Nantes in western France. Extraordinary attention to detail and some glorious spectacle (we've seen the chariot race on this Forum before). So it was somewhat disappointing to see that the ATM machine in the corner of this medieval town was just a modern ATM machine. Surely something could be done to make cash dispensing more historically appropriate? High res is here. ![]() |

According to Google: "The first cash dispensing machine, or automated teller machine (ATM), was installed by Barclays Bank in Enfield, London, in June 1967, providing 24/7 access to cash with a special card. Precursors included a 1966 Japanese "Computer Loan Machine" and conceptual work by John Shepherd-Barron, who was involved with the Barclays installation" |

Early ATMs were somewhat unreliable... she should have brought a bigger basket. ![]() ![]() |

Lots of fun already. Loyd I'd already done my coin dispenser before I saw yours but I haven't bothered to change. I think it's more or less inevitable that more than one of us would think of a gargoyle dispenser. Mediaeval Country Banking. Re: Challenge 1069: Medieval banking
A gargoyle was an early thought of mine as well, but I was distracted by other ideas and pushed it back a bit, I may still use it later. The coin dispenser seemed relatively obvious. Your version is certainly well thought out David, and wonderfully achieved, you may have a difficult time topping this one! The concept of an automated barter machine is brilliant. |

Piggy is a perfect idea. Funny, financial and rural. I'm drifting a bit off topic here. I have no idea where this came from but once I had the thought I couldn't help it ........ and such fun to build as well. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

The only clue left by overnight thieves is a trail of dropped coins headed into the forest… hint: The rats didn’t do it. ![]() Below is a full-size static version if you prefer. ![]() |

I am in s l o w mode today. Forest and tree stress perhaps? I've only just cottoned on to your subject! Very appropriate. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
