Challenge 1108: The mysterious gateway
This gateway is actually one of the entrances to the splendid Oxburgh Hall in Norfolk. But there's something rather magical about it – I feel it could lead to something altogether more mysterious. And of course that lantern will help. High res is here. |

Re: Challenge 1108: The mysterious gateway
There's a sort of contradiction in this one. Steve suggests the door could lead to something mysterious. Yes it could ....... great ............. but it's so small that we can't really see much of what might lead to! I'll be very curious to see what emerges here from everyone. I'm just a wee bit stumped for now. Turn it on its head? Mysterious image filling foreground with a glimpse of banal reality beyond the door? Anyway, that's a very clever start Loyd. I love the mistiness. Come to think of there's a thought ...... Mystiness. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1108: The mysterious gateway
I've gone a similar route Loyd and followed Steve's hint about the lantern. Seemed like a nice quiet back entrance for a tryst so, for want of anything better at the moment, I 'm doing what David's most comfortable doing ............. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Not mysterious, but I had to get away from Halloween themes.

A Catholic priest, candle lantern in hand, slips through the gateway from a hidden priest hole during the persecution of England's recusant Catholics. The spectral figure of Mary, Queen of Scots, a fellow Catholic, watches silently from the shadows. Sometimes history turns on great events. Sometimes it turns on a guard needing the toilet. |

That's nice Ben. What's he carrying? Is it a tool of exorcism? _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1108: The mysterious gateway
For some reason I'm still struggling to properly get to grips with this. So, unless I really get a proper idea, I shall stop here. Loyd's first misty entry triggered the idea of Mystiness ......... which has led me here to Riven.

All I can say is all entries are great so no individual comments. Some great lighting. I, like David, struggled with this a bit trying different options attempting to find a happy medium. Settled for this mysterious entryway. ![]() |

Hi David, a medieval candle lantern, I added a note to the image. |

That's lovely Vibeke. This has been an education. 3D models, ai 3D modeling, 3D scene construction, PS to combined it all with many tweaks, layers and techniques and some masking, painting and texture embossing in PS. ![]() _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |
