Panoramic images
This post is for anyone who tackles panoramic images by stitching two or more images together. I came across this piece of software in a French magazine and was quite intrigued as I already use a programme called ‘Stitcher 4’. (Sorry but I just don’t rate Photoshop’s stitching plug-in.) This seemed to be a considerable advance on Stitcher so I downloaded the trial. After running a couple of test images I put my money on the line. This is the first full image that I produced using three images shot on a Nikon D700 with a12mm lens with the camera in the vertical position and covering a total angle of just over 180 degrees. The only tweaking in photoshop was to enhance the colour and sharpen in Lab and then darken the sky with curves in RGB and then crop it. The location is the Gorges de L'Ardeche in Provence. These images were shot as jpgs but it will also handle RAW files and output to any format you wish. http://www.autopano.net

Whenever I have used it it often doesn't sort out slight variations in exposure and has left me with a lot of cleaning up to do. Sometimes it just cannot stitch the photographs together accurately and you have to tidy up the masking in the psd files. Stitcher, on the other hand, does automatically. Autopano has perfected the technique and does a marvellous job (so far, anyway!). _________________ The roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference.
