Test 1 Fire Hazard/Fireworks/ Hands
I really struggled to get the firework to show through the gaps in the trees, a million +magic wands. What haven't I done properly? it looks horrible

Re: Test 1 Fire Hazard/Fireworks/ Hands/Bike
This one I did really quickly, however I don't think I followed the tutorial for it.
Elliptical marquee'd the front wheel, copied to a new layer. Chopped it in half, copied to a new layer, rotated it to fit the first half, merged the 2 layers and scaled it into the back wheel space.

Re: Test 1 Fire Hazard/Fireworks/ Hands
Hi Jan in France
Nobody seems to have commented on these. I don't have CS5 book or update yet so I cannot do a decent comment but here are some comments.

For the fireworks, did you use the Layer Styles dialog > Blend If function at the bottom using shortcut ? I know that this is a favorite of Steve's using the Alt key to split the sliders for more control. But getting it to work in broad daylight is a considerable challenge.

The hands on the keys look great. Perhaps your shadows need a bit more definition and a sense at least in your head as to where the light source is coming from.

The bike looks fantastic.

The snake and stools looks good too. There is another question mark over the shadows since you have chosen to put them in here. You need to decide on your light direction and apply the same angle to both the snake and the stools. At the moment one stool has a slight shadow, left stool back leg indicates that the light source is on the right but the snake's shadow seems to indicate that the light source is some distance or height away and behind the whole scene (degree of blurriness and direction). I'm also not sure the right stool leg should be showing below the snake. It shows that part of the snake is not on the ground. Of course you may have a snake pet and be able to witness this! Sorry if I am being too picky only we do get regular Friday Challenges testing us on these very points. It takes time to sink in!

The cigar box and contents look great. Very neat.

I hope you pop into the site and see this.

Best wishes and hope this has been of help.

Jan,

Sorry - I hadn't noticed this in here either, until I saw Sophie's post. I agree with all her comments, but would add that perhaps the cigars are just a little too neat to be realistic: jiggle them around a little?

And absolutely, Blend If is the way to go for the fireworks image. Check it out in the book - once you've figured out how to use it, you'll be amazed at how powerful it is.
