Rounded edges with Blur and Levels
Here's an example of a headlamp of an old car. I stumbled across this item in a book about Photoshop. It's about the principle of blurring and reducing this blur using Levels to get things sharp again with rounded edges. Another technique to use is Refine Edge, see for an example page 179 in Steve's book 100% Photoshop (I know about the shadows in the background). ![]() |

Yes, indeed - and that's the way I used to recommend before Refine Edge made the whole process a lot more controllable! |

...and the principle you already discribed in your first 'How to cheat in Photoshop' (2002) where you Blurred & Leveled text, merged on a white layer (page 110). For that purpose it's a 'bulkier' methode than Refine Edge in my opinion. So for text I prefer the methode in your first book. |
