Enhancement
On page 96 in Steve's book about CS5 he writes about enhancing a dull photo. Another methode, without duplicating the layer could be: Unsharp Mask » Amount: 25 - Radius: 50 - Threshold: 0 The effect is somewhere between Soft- and Hard Light, but with less destruction in the highlights. |

Yes, Unsharp Mask is certainly a good approach, and those settings are most interesting. Hadn't tried that sort of combination before. The advantage of the multi-layer approach is that it's very editable, and you can change your mind later - but of course, turning the layer into a Smart Object would allow you to add Unsharp Mask as a Smart Filter, which would itself then be editable. |

Yes, this approach looks like 'Local contrast' in Camera Raw 6.0 (CS5) or Clarity in Camera Raw 7.0 (CS6). |
