Adjustments Layer Mask by Default
When you add an Adjustments Layer Photoshop automatic adds a Layer Mask, whether you'll use it or not. I find this not boosting a neatly organized appearance of the Layers Palette. I'll rather add a Layer Mask only just when I need it. You can stop this standard behavior in the options of the Adjustments Palette by removing the check mark in front of 'Add Mask by Default'.

Yes, you can disable the mask as you said here. But why would you want to? It's a very useful feature.
