Activity 03.03 - Line art: simplified - what am I doing wrong?
Hi, Just working through the book (which has been great so far) but I am struggling with the activity in chapter 03.03. I can't get past step 2. I make sure I have the "shape layers mode" active and am using the "pen tool", but I can't seem to trace around the womans face freely, it makes blocks of colour and all of my lines are straight. I don't know if I am completely missing something, or just not reading it properly, but it's been driving me mad so far so decided to see if somebody could help me on here? I am using Photoshop CS2 and have attached a picture of the problem I am having. Thanks alot  |

Hello, You aren't doing anything wrong. If you carry on drawing the outline, the shape will eventually catch up with you and you will have your white shape. Try it. Must admit I've never used Shape Layer so had to try it out, and exactly the same happened to me as your screen shot, but if you carry on around the image it works. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the response Deborah. I continued to draw lines around the shape but the fill ends up being outside of the picture (I am trying to draw an outline of the woman and fill over her face). It ends up looking like the attached which is not what I want at all. It's on page 48 of the book, the outline drawn on the example looks more freehand than the lines I am drawing.  |

Hello, Yes, but if you carry on drawing around the head, including the top edge it will work. I've shown three screen shots to show you what I mean.  |
