Back to basics
Just thought I'd share this with anyone who interested. I just bought "the animators survival kit" book by Richard Williams as I've always been facinated with animation but never really learnt classical animation properly (I've always gone for the quick fix stuff in flash etc.)... After getting a 1/3 of the way through the book I thought it was time to have a go at a standard walk cycle. This was far more difficult and time consuming than I thought it would be... here's my very rough results (I cheated by making copies of the head though) ![]() |

That's very good, Pete. I agree that walking is one of the hardest things to animate successfully. |

Re: Back to basics
That's great Pete. I was looking at an animation (drawn) sequence a while ago for a tiger running. Something that requires a good deal of patience - maybe an idea for a challenge but maybe not a tiger! |

Re: Back to basics
Thanks Deborah, The tiger sounds interesting and complicated... I think I'll be sticking with two legs for the time being! I've just got a few more frames to draw on my next one, then I think I'll have a go at photoshoping a photo into a walk... |

Re: Back to basics
This walk is based on the 'Milt Kahl type' strut from the book I'm working from. All done in photoshop (except I used after effects to slide the animation left, so the character stays in the middle) ![]() |

thanks Kate, I'm now a bit scared to try anything longer than 1 second long though! |
