PS Support
Forgive me if I am out of order for having this rant here, but I feel this is one place where I will be understood.

I wanted to add some fonts to my PS Library and I didn't know how to do it. I looked everywhere on the self-help but without luck. Now I knew it couldn't be that difficult. So, I rang Adobe help and spoke to an Asian gentlemen. I explained that I had downloaded these fonts and could he tell me please the process for installing into PS CS4.

To cut a long story short he said NO! I said why not? And he said because we don't provide support for Non-Adobe products. I said I don't want support for the font. Adobe provide a facility for me to add fonts to my programme, and I don't know how to do that. He asked me to hang on the phone, this I did for 8 minutes, he then came back and said sorry we are not trained to help you with this. But if I looked in Library I would find my Fonts Folder. And that was that.

The previous person I spoke to on a similar question about installing Gradients, didn't even realise that there is a whole industry out producing specialist 'tools' specifically for PS. and also refused to tell me how to install additional gradients and textures.
Is it me?

Hi Mark,
I only have CS3 but I seem to remember when I last did this, I found a folder called fonts either within program files / Adobe or within common files / Adobe. But I have Windows 7 and you may have a Mac. Unlike brushes and patterns which you can load using Edit/Preset Manager, I think you have to put your font files in a folder on your system.

Re: PS Support
Agree Sophie. Can also put in C://WINDOWS/Fonts if want available to all programs and can us Control panel -> Fonts etc blah ... blah. ..
But guess not much use to Mark with his MAC or his issue with "NO", apart from technical principle....

Re: PS Support
Many thanks Sophie and Trevor.

I did manage to sort it out in the end. Once I had located the Font Folder in the Library I was away (at least I hope so)!
My machine still tends to crash at the drop of a pixel and I am in touch with Apple almost daily. I am beginning to wonder if I have a Friday afternoon machine!
However, ever forward I guess, if at first you don't succeed? (Don't take up parachute free falling).

Re: PS Support
Mark,

I think the issue here is that fonts are installed into the operating system, not into any one application. So it's really nothing to do with Adobe: Photoshop will see all the fonts installed in your Mac.

Incidentally, all you have to do is double-click the font, and it will open Fontbook on the Mac, giving the option of pressing a button to install it.

Intrigued that your Mac keeps crashing, however. Is it very old? How much RAM do you have installed? This may well be something that can be sorted out fairly easily. Give me a ring, if you like, and I may be able to talk you through it.

Re: PS Support
Steve,

Thanks for that info it is very helpful.

The main reason, I guess, that I am getting hot under the collar is that the Mac is brand spanking new! I bought it from my new Mac store that has recently opened in Cardiff. It is a dual Quad (8 core) I had memory upgraded by them, to 8 GB. I then installed another internal hard drive which gave me the following 2TB + of space: Mac HD 650GB, 1.5TB partitioned so that there is 500Gb for general data storage and 1TB for the CS4 scratch and storage, and an external 500 GB Maxtor for Time Machine
I am not running any 'dodgy' software, and my main office work is done on MS Office Mac, with Entourage for email and address/calendar etc.
I have allocated no more than 70% of ram to the scratch disk in preferences, which I think still leaves me a min of 3Gb for the rest of the system.

I have just spent a further £200 for telephone support and all the usual extended insurance with Apple and that is why I am working with them almost daily to try and sort. At the moment They have asked me to use a different user account to see if the same things happen, if they do then we will know it is a system wide problem. If not then hopefully they will help me sort it. I must say that the Apple support people have been absolutely terrific and will do anything to help and have the patience of Job with me.

Thanks for the interest, I will keep you posted.

Re: PS Support
This really is very unusual. You might just have a duff machine - it happens sometimes. Best of luck with it!
