Quick Matchmove / camera tracking
If anyone's interested, my first matchmove project: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFZaY8g0Ydw Photoshop was used to create a HDR image 360 pano using the flexify filter from some mirror ball photos to give realistic lighting. Cinema 4D used for 3D, and PFhoe Pro used for the matchmove. |

If I might say also, me too. I find that facinating. Guess I need to do even more study. Thanks Pete for sharing. PS backdrop looks like Manchester/Liverpool jiger to me. Fits very well. |

Re: Quick Matchmove / camera tracking
Hey Thanks Everyone, I really appreciate the comments. I really wanted to do this since I first saw the channel 4 idents on TV here in the UK. PFhoe is the cut down (cheaper) version of the software used to do these. You can try the software for free at: http://wwwpfhoe.com (and also watch some tutorials) ... and I find that their is something magical about watching the software try and work out the 3D environment from the video footage. Couple of things I've worked out that might help if you want to have a go. Make sure their is no camera blur in the footage (avoid fast pans and long shutter speeds) Make sure there is parallax depth movement (side to side, of forward to backwards movement) as this is how the software works out depth. The software works best when there is texture on the surface of things (I found the brick walls of my back yard work better than the textureless surface of my dining room table). Trevor, well spotted, I live pretty much inbetween Manchester & Liverpool Cheers Pete |

I've just watched a demo on their site. It looks quite interesting. I like your short video. Your text fitted in very naturally. I expect realistic lighing is probably the hardest part. |

Re: Quick Matchmove / camera tracking
Thanks Deborah, Paul Re: lightling, once I'd got the workflow down it wasn't too difficult to get the lighting sorted. In Cinema 4D, the advanced renderer module lets you use image based lighting. Below is a tonemapped version of the HDRi pano I created in Photoshop using flexify filter from mirror ball shots (from 3 different angles). I then mapped this onto a sky item in C4D and it pretty much did all the hard work (with me only adjusting the gamma settings and rotation to line it up). ![]() |
