Recommend a free RAW viewer? please
My Fuji S9500 is broken, I can only use it on auto or presets. However, even with this the images are getting worse and worse, over/underexposed and grainier and grainer...I despair, as I cannot afford a new camera yet (want a Nikon D90) Yesterday I shot in RAW on auto and its like a new camera! I'm so pleased. I need to find a free-ware/shareware RAW viewer as I do not want to clutter up my Hard Drive with these large files, although I will be putting them on an external HD I don't want that cluttering up either. Can anyone recommend a good simple viewer so I can see which photos to manipulate and delete the rest while they are on the card?. Surely Adobe Bridge is the best RAW viewer there is? |

Re: Recommend a free RAW viewer? please
Hi Jan I have always and only, used the Adobe Bridge version for Raw. I find it an absolute Godsend now that I have got into the habit of always opening the file in RAW first. I don't do a huge amount of editing etc but I do always adjust the brightness, contrast, Fill Light and of course the Exposure tool if needed. As for all the other tools I tend use those later in PS if needed, however, I have read recently where some folk are actually doing the majority of their adjustment and correction in the RAW viewer before opening in PS. Finally, Jan can I suggest you take a good look at Bridge it is a great tool for sorting and categorising your shots, I use it religiously as my photo management and organisation tool. Good luck Mark _________________ Mark Goodwin If you do what you have always done, you'll get what you've always got! |

Hi Jan I would endorse the advice given by Steve and Mark. Also, if you can stretch to it, Lightroom is absolutely fantastic. You can make adjustments to your hearts content, without actually touching the original file. You can create as many virtual copies of an image as you like and apply different effects to each. When all the adjustments are made, you can select all the images and export them to a new sub folder as JPEGS and have them printed. It is truly a wonderful piece of software for photographers, but PS is needed for the intricate stuff. Nick |

Hi Jan, You can also go to the Hasselblad website and you can down load Phocus 2.5 for MAC or Windows. It will handle all kinds of RAW files and is completely free. It's a programme similar to Aperture and Lightroom. Gordon _________________ Why is there only one word for ‘Thesaurus’? |
