Going Downhill
I treated myself to a 300mm lens on Friday and went to Chicksands woods in Bedfordshire this afternoon to try it out. There is a fantastic purpose built mountain bike area, with a number of downhill courses and jump sections. I grabbed this shot and added a small amount of zoom blur. Nick  |

Great photo Nick, ...and agree with Anna.... my comments: Very sharp where you want it and the colour great. You must have a good new 300mm lens for that with the light conditions and motion. Funny, I get blur when I don't really want it  Not easy to catch at all. I presume you had rapid continuous multi-shot active.
Re: cycling, including off road, unless motorcycle, I like to keep my wheels on the ground, whimp 
This is not critique of your photo. I was just having some thoughts. The camera works different to the eye. Outside our central retina, there are few colour receptors, so with a quick central action focus, like you have, we only see colour in the centre, the rest is more monochrome. So my small thought, which maybe you have tried is to slightly desaturate the image outside the main area of focus "for the eye". Its okay though, our brains fill in the perception of colours after. Pity we don't have the eyes of eagles or peregrine falcons, but I guess now we have some excellent digital cameras  So I guess what I am saying is could also try desaturate to a degree some of the area outside the with the motion blur. Just a thought for a variant, and maybe not work. Of course then maybe it goes outside straight photos
One last comment: with dynamic pictures it really nice to have them off/slightly-off centre if can. Thanks for sharing, sorry I was a bit late with comment Trevor |

Thanks Trevor Yes, the lens is good and the 2.8 gives a great depth of field. Shot on 5D Mk11 at 1000th sec at ISO 3,200 hand held with drive (just over 3 frames / sec). This guy came back to Earth with a crash!  |

Nick, Now that is brilliant, beautiful! Looks great. I could never get that shot, at least with my intermediate camera and lens, ...... and me I worry about his landing, but he looks fit enough. Ouch! And thanks for technical details. Thought specification might be something like, but more extreme than I thought . Well earned. I won't say any more here.
