Art in Ditchling
My home village of Ditchling in Sussex holds an art fair every May in association with the Brighton Arts Festival. Ditchling itself has long been associated with art and has been home to many famous artists and actors over the years. Dame Vera Lynn and musician Herbie Flowers both live in the village. Roger Moore lived here before he was Roger Moore! Frank Brangwynn, Roland Emmett and Raymond Briggs all lived here. Eric Gill also lived here, although we tend not to publicise that too much! We have a thriving group of artists such as Paul Brown and Shirley Crowther. Whilst not an artist, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles's wife, lived just a couple of miles away when she was a child. Last year, with two other photographers, I held my first ever photographic exhibition as part of the 'Art in Ditchling' fair and am pleased to say that I shall be doing the same again this year with a series of images in infrared. Exhibitions are held in various locations around the village during weekends and Bank Holidays in May. Should any HTCIPpers find yourselves in the Brighton area at this time please do come along for a visit. I shan't be there over the weekend of 17/18 as I shall be on my hols shooting more infrared for my book.

Congratulations on the new exhibition, Gordon. But don't be so hard on Eric Gill - whatever his personal issues, he was a fine sculptor and the 20th century's most influential typographer! |

Thanks Steve. Amazingly I have all the prints made and framed well ahead of time and am already thinking about the exhibition for 2015! I agree about Eric Gill's abilities; Gill Sans has to be one of the most elegant typefaces. _________________ It only seems impossible. |
