Now a very Happy Bunny!!
Following my last post concerning RAM failure here is a happy outcome ...... Following Steve's recommendation I went to Crucial where I found not only replacement DIMM's but a number of SSD options compatible with my 2008 Mac Pro. I decided to make the best of a bad thing and go the whole hog. I purchased enough memory to upgrade to 28GB and replaced my principal HD with a 516GB SSD. After backing up my system to an external drive, I replaced HD1 (of four) with the SSD and installed a virgin Mavericks OS before restoring my personal configuration from the the back up. Oh WOW!! With the combination of SSD and extra memory my almost nine year old Mac Pro is sprinting. Usain Bolt has nothing on this old lady ....... !!! After losing part of my memory (my Mac's that is) I could barely load some of my mega PSB's - let alone work them. Now, with the new RAM and SSD, Photoshop is just gobbling them up! I have moved my PS scratch disk from a two disc RAID to the SSD (even though it is my primary system drive as well) and Photoshop flies!! I am a very Happy Bunny again!! ![]() David Mac _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
