Couple aerials
I grabbed this one on the way back to the airport. These lines feed Atlanta and web throughout the Southeast. All the major highways in Atlanta were originally built as train lines.

The capture reminded me of an old 70's Polaroid, so I somewhat gave it that effect...

This is Atlantic Station in Midtown.

Re: Couple aerials
Your aerial shots are fantastic, Chris. Have you ever tried some faux tilt-shift effects on any of them?

Re: Couple aerials
Great aerial images Chris. I particularly like the first with the train lines, history and geography recorded reflected in the fabric of now from the air. Almost abstract too!

Re: Couple aerials
Hey, thank you for the kind words. I'm starting to get better at this. Shooting while hanging out the side of a helicopter is fun, but it can sometimes be difficult keeping the horizon level!

Lonnie, I've played with tilt shift effects, but not yet been able to get them as realistic as I want.

Here's a couple more.

Property around Helen, GA.

Turner Field. You may notice the previous baseball field behind the new one. It's been demolished into a parking lot.

Field looked nice from the air.

Re: Couple aerials
I did this faux model rendition (tilt-shift) with one of your photos. Hope you don't mind.

Re: Couple aerials
Thanks Lonnie, that looks pretty good. Other than individual homes, this was one of the first commercial images I tried the tilt shift effect. It's been rather difficult for me to make it look convincing. If this was a real model, it would take years for the modeler to create the scene in real life, so the eyes of even the most casual viewers are not so easily fooled when looking at a subject as complex as this. Originally, I was going for the tilt shift effect to print on display at a fine art gallery in that very shopping center.

But the complexity of the 'models' makes the overall image unconvincing and fake when viewed at full resolution.

Interesting though, last night I saw an Allstate commercial on this very effect. And they did a wonderful job. A search on Google and I found the commercial online here:

http://www.allstate.com/content/refresh-videos/AA_Multiples.wmv

They look to be around 150-200ft altitude. We usually get residential no lower than 400ft. Any lower and some homeowners have complained when a helicopter is hovering right over their bedroom! If the home is not in a subdivision, we can get right in their front yard - which has been done before!

Pretty cool!

(I don't mind people playing with my images. If anyone posts anything online, that should be expected these days. I just don't want people going around posting them in their commercial websites and such unless purchased.)
