Blackberry Phone
My daughter was kind enough to give me her old Blackberry (Curve 8320). Great, only one problem, it had been a company phone, with strict security. I have cleaned everything out, reset it to factory settings, and downloaded th elatest updates, but I can not access the Media card. Which of course means I can't use it for photographs or music. When I go into settings for the media card, it shows as OFF with a little red lock next to it.
Does anyone know how to remove the security?

Vibeke

Re: Blackberry Phone
I had a maybe a similar problem (I don't know). I gave my daughter my ex-company phone from Ireland. She lives in Scotland.

Mobile phones get locked when you change operators (reason because they subsidise the purchase of the new phone. No comment).

I work in this industry, but the operators do this, and it seems "we" comply.

Anyway we were both with Vodafone. You have to get an unblocking code when change operators .She got it wrong x3 before she knew. The Phone went AWOL after. Don't look at me I just the engineering and standards so the phones work all the way round the world, including China, who became a driver. Of course, just a part of it. What a pity the commercial side stops you using this network) Sorry gone a rant.

Steve. BTW The gif messes with my cursor. I don't mind, James has a great contribution. Seems we need to compose in other form and then post/paste.

Who is your operator? I have connections (includes Australia, not sure about NZ). It will give me an excuse to call them

In standards 3GPP we try to stop this. If we are a little bit tired then some can push it through, and then when not funded, no voice.........I do not get tired for this international responsibility.

Re: Blackberry Phone
Vibeke,

Excuse my rant. According to my understanding, call the original operator to get an unblocking (it has a different name) and then you pass it to your operator. It should work after that. 2xtelephone calls. We (3GPP) did not standardise the business side, but we got close ).

Re: Blackberry Phone
Hi Trevor,
The blackberry works fine as far as making calls etc, I have even been able to install a new program (sudoko). But I can not access the 1GB Media card, there might be other things too, that I haven't discovered yet.

Re: Blackberry Phone
Thanks Redsnapper,
I have pretty well done all those things (several times). The phone is functioning fine, except some functions are locked, like the Media card (yes it is in place).
Can not turn off:
* Enable Password
* Enable Firewall
It is obviously some built in security, but surely it sould be able to be removed.

Re: Blackberry Phone
hello vibeke,
really didn´t mean to smartass you in any way. if you can go online with that maschine of yours you can maybe put a new software on it via the official blackthing-site. i haven´t got one but it is only a tool, a tiny little personal-computer with a telephone function. there must be some way of reseting it. sometimes there is a code that controls the lot. what is eigenschaften translated again...wait...ahhh, yes, properties. there should be a code like on an answering maschine. or a way of wiping the bugger clean of everything. by the locked card i thought of a little switch on the card which could be in the wrong position. no, it is not, you checked a million times already. mhh. i try to find out which system that phone runs on and come back tomorow CET. do not despair.

Re: Blackberry Phone
Sorry not much help Vibeke, as you say if can make calls most likely not a service provider - mobile issue which I was thinking of first.

I would only suggest similar to Redsnapper i.e. download updated OS or reset. I see some pages on the web, but guess Redsnapper will comeback with further specific details tomorrow. I do not have a Blackberry, so no further insight.

Hope get it sorted soon,
Trevor

Re: Blackberry Phone
this is a burst of links i found and read. some sound like it could, as i imagined, be just a silly little glitch easily repaired:

and some rather cheerful info

- http://search.us-cert.gov/search?client=default_frontend&site=default_collection&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=default_frontend&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&as_q=blackberry+vulnerability+&num=10&btnG=Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&sort=date%3AD%3AS%3Ad1&as_lq=

i actually feel confident i could teach that thing who its master is now without doing a frog-prince stunt on it (throw it at the wall).
