Wow that's lovely! What filter did you use on the lens? I've had the Lee 10 stop on my wishlist for so long and seeing this reminded me of it ![]() |

I spent much of my youth on the coast (northern Ca area) and this photo reminds me of how serene and calm (and a bit spooky) twilight at the ocean can be. Oh - and another stunning image....... _________________ "Imagination, not invention, is the supreme master of art........" Joseph Conrad |

Yes great image Doug. You seem to get some different weather and light there, and well captured. Trevor |

Beautiful. It's images like this that make me realise how I'm really, really not a photographer. Just out of interest, though, what did the sunset really look like? To the naked eye, I mean? I'm sure it didn't appear as if the sky was boiling. |

Doug, that is quite stunning. Real sense of power in the clouds. The Cloud Appreciation Society would love to see this one, Im sure. I love clouds, particularly sunset ones. Rarely up early enough for sunrise ones lol http://cloudappreciationsociety.org/ _________________ Wicked Witch of the West: I'm melting! I'm melting! |

Thanks everyone for your kind comments, appreciate them. Steve here's the original from the raw file without any adjustments, I always try to expose as far to the right as possible without over exposing to keep the details, gives me more room to mess around in camera raw. Thanks Anna, I'll take a look at that! ![]() |

Doug -- I read somewhere exposing moderately to the right also keeps noise down |

Re: Sunset Near Whitby
Hi Frank, that's actually quite true. Depending on your camera, it is easier to pull information from the highlights than it is pulling from the shadows. Have you ever had an underexposed image, too dark, and tried to brighten it? Rather nasty noise in the shadows can result. For my camera, over exposing 1/3 - 2/3 stop gives me details in shadows, and also allows me to pull back on the highlights. Most shoot RAW, which gives additional flexibility as well. munchonu, I've ordered the 10 stop and kit for fun (going to cali next week), but the foundation kit is backordered from manufacturer ![]() ![]() |
