Famous painter
My dad, center, use to fly a lot when working for Sam Collin's Pipelines. One of Sam Collin's friends was a famous painter. He is on the plane too. Can you identify who it is? ![]() _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Re: Famous painter
I used 1 of his paintings in my picture from challenge 1106. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Don't recognise any of them, sorry. But then if they aren't David Hockney, Salvador Dali or Leonardo da Vinci I think I'd have trouble recognising any painters. Except maybe Francis Bacon. |

I'm going to plump for Vladimir Tretchikoff (foreground left). _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Hang Daivid, well done. Yes. That's him sitting on the left. Sam Collins' was an extremely wealthy man. He was wise enough to find a grey area regarding the diamond fields in Southwest Africa. If he couldn't mine on the land, he'd suck them off the ocean floor...and that's what he did. He brought in barges and pumped the diamonds off the ocean floor. That's where the group were heading. To go drool over the thousands of diamonds and Sam's barge operations. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

I have to confess I had to do a bit of research and guesswork. Looking at your challenge image it was obvious that very few of the painters you featured could possibly have been on that plane so I only had to check for pictures of a couple to find him. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Famous painter
When I was at school one of the subjects I studied was History of Art. Most of the paintings in your image I recognised immediately without needing to research them. Of those, Escher and Picasso could be ruled out because I knew what they looked like and they weren't in the photo. I guessed the photo to be anywhere between mid thirties and mid fifties. The possibility of Vermeer, Raphael or Klimpt seemed slim as they had all long been pushing up daisies by then. Mondrian would also either be departed or be far too old to be any of the men in the picture. That left just three paintings I didn't recognise. I had no idea about the sailing ship but it seemed a safe bet that it was not painted by a contemporary of your father's. So that left only two pictures to research. Google image search immediately gave me Fernand Leger and Vladimir Tretchikoff. Once I had found photos of them the answer was clear. So, in the end, not exactly brain surgery. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Famous painter
You really know your artists. Can't say I do. I appreciate a great painting but really only admire the work and technique, very rarely checking to see who did it. Good job in any case. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |
