17 October: Royal Photographic Society, Surrey
I'm delighted to confirm an event at the Royal Photographic Society on Sunday 17 October 2010, at the Riverside Arts Centre, Walton-on Thames, in Surrey. This will be a full day event, from 10am to 4pm, tying in with the RPS exhibition The Art of Photography. The day will begin with a debate on the ethics and morality of creating photomontages, in which we'll look at the art of montage, image making and deception from the 16th Century to the present day. How acceptable is it for photographers to manipulate the events they record? Is editing images in Photoshop substantially different from making the same changes at the time of shooting? What moral responsibility to we have to our viewers, and to the world in general? After lunch, we'll go on to look at how Photoshop can benefit photographers with an exploration of layers and layer masks, Smart Objects, editing and adjustment techniques, showing how we can use it to improve, correct and remodel our photographs. I'll also be looking at the chief enhancements in Photoshop CS5, as well as answering audience questions. Tickets are £25 including lunch. A great talk as ever Steve, and many thanks for going over Smart Objects, going into those computer screens. I can see I am going to have to practice that one a few times! A most enjoyable day. I think you had quite a few converts! Good to meet you Ted. |

A really good and inspiring day Steve, thank you. It was also good to meet with Deborah for the first time. When I got home I spent the rest of the evening learning smart objects. CS5 has got a little closer! Ted |
