Sam Spud Project Completed
Hey All . . . This is my finished version of the Sam Spud project. This is the first art piece I've ever designed from scratch in Photoshop and - before moving on to the next one - I wanted to post it here and get some opinions from anyone willing to contribute; any tips, opinions and/or suggestions I can keep in mind for future projects. This piece took roughly about 6 or 7 hours to complete. I'm not the world's greatest artist at freehand work (especially on an art tablet), so the silhouette is actually a a vector selection I filled of a profile picture of Indiana Jones I found online! The red wallpaper was a bit tricky, but I ended up scanning a copy of the sample in the book, brought the image into Photoshop as a new file and traced/filled on a new layer, did my necessary duplications, reversals and effects before dragging it into the final project. Turned out better than I expected. Overall, this was a really fun way to start learning about creating art in Photoshop and, as I've found with my photography experience, the trickest aspects always come down to lighting and shading. This project really challenged and pushed me beyond my comfort zone and I feel I know Photoshop and my own artistic abilities better than before as a result. Thanks Steve and to everyone else who took the time to answer my questions as I worked this one out. I'm really loving this forum. Infinitely helpful. Respectfully, Shidoshi ![]() |

Looks pretty darn good to me. Better than mine and I took ( a lot ) longer. I suspect a photographers eye helps as never progressed beyond snaps. The only question I can offer is about the lighting round the lightswitch and trunking where it seems to follow the shape but for no apparent reason. Kudos. |

Thanks Scooby! I tried to get the same effect as the final picture in the book, but perhaps my brush was a little harder than it should have been for that subtle kind of effect. That's one of those things I assume (hope) will improve the more I work with it. I appreciate your feedback! Thank you for your help too! ~ S ~

Well done. I suggest have a look at the works of Carravagio. I'm very glad you finished it. The most important part you enjoyed and learnt ![]() I can't comment more than that, because I've not made my version, have different style and I'm a bad critique...as others know... Steve is trying to give us some ideas ....... as you know Try the next few, its not easy....... Enjoy ![]() |

Great piece of work Shidoshi. Just one thing the Indiana Jones figure is too dark, you had to fill it with grey, however very well done! _________________ Stefano |
