Document size
Hi,
I love the new book "100% Photoshop" but I am often left wondering what size document Steve started with. Any ideas?

Re: Document size
Hi Keith,

I have the same feel. In my way I always make new document with size 1000x1000 pixels, 300 DPI, 8bits/channel. When the picture is in progress I sometimes make some resizing of the canvas.

I am also wondering what experiences have others. What size and setups do you use?

Let us know please.

Emil

Re: Document size
I didn't give an exact size because I don't like telling people precisely what to do - you can make any of the images at any size that feels comfortable.

For example, I worked at 4547 x 2894 pixels for all the illustrations in the book, but that's because the images had to be 38.5 x 24.5 cm at 300ppi. But when I did the live show at the launch, I worked at 900 x 700 pixels, so the whole image would fit on screen at actual size.

It's the same reason why I try not to give precise values for filters. It's more important that you do what looks right, than simply typing in numbers. That's the only way to learn how a filter works.

Having said that, Emil's suggestion - for individual objects - is certainly a good one.

Thank you so much for your reply Steve. I certainly understand your reasoning in not divulging the exact information and can appreciate the dilemma.

On a separate note, I have several of your other publications and have enjoyed every one but personally I think that "100% Photoshop" for me is by far the most satisfying.

And yes, Emil's suggestion is working pretty good for me.

Take care Steve, and please keep those books coming, awesome!

Re: Document size
I usually work at 300 dpi, but the size of my image vary, Often start off too big, and as the layers and file size build up, I'm quite likely to reduce the size of the image.

I think you are mistaken, Steve is not holding back on his information, he is amazingly generous when it comes to sharing his knowledge.

What he means is, that as we all are likely to work on different size documents, depending on our resources, he can't tell you the exact brush size, or what numbers to plug into different filters etc. Not to mention that by playing around with different settings we are far more likely to learn and remember.
