Cutting an object in half
I know this is prolly a very simple thing, but I just don't know how to cut an object in half. I am doing the 100% PS lesson Chapter 7 and need to cut the dot ball in 2. Thanks

Re: Cutting an object in half
I didn't know how to cut it exactly in half until I came across this tip so thought I would share.

Select the object you want to cut in half, go into transform. The transform provides a central dot to the object. You can then pull across/down some guides which snap to this centre dot. When you escape out of transform you have some guides that the marquee tool can snap to allow you to remove exactly half.

I tend to just use the Marquee tool, and do it by eye - but the Free Transform approach is a good solution.

Re: Cutting an object in half
Steve, I am far too neurotic to do it by eye when an exact half is called for. Something I am working on though.

I have found also that when making something like the standard pill shape ( two semi-circles at either end of a rectangle ) this exact approach works better for the lesser skilled like myself.

Regards
Colin

Trust your eye, Colin! That's the whole thing about Photoshop - if it looks right, then it is right.
