Uploading Images
If I'd like to upload an image, how do I do that exactly? For example, I've got a wood grain sample that reads Doc 1.63M/3.39M. I'm not sure what these numbers mean precisely--but both seem too large for what is allowable for uploading here. Is there a) a way to bring that size down so's I can upload it, or b) a tried and true method for uploading artwork in general? I hope to complete a whole project and share it: what's the best way to share? My apologies for being a complete noob. ![]() |

Hi Marcel, Don't worry about being a noobie; we all started there once! The figures of 1.63M/3.39M show that you are working on a layered file i.e. unflattened. The '1.63M' indicates the size of the file if it were to be flattened, in which case it would read 1.63M/1.63M. The 3.39M indicates the total file size of the layered file. It indicates also that you have two layers as the second figure is twice-ish the first. I've never bothered to find out why it's not always an exact multiple. To post a file on the forum:- I usually flatten the file first and save it separately as a jpg but there is no actual need to do this. Go to Image>File Size and type in a number between 800 and 900 for the pixels on the longest side. Now go to File>Save for Web. Towards the bottom left you will find a file size. You need to get this to just under 100kb. To do this look to the right hand dialogue box and you will see a box marked 'quality'. Click on this and you will get a slider control. Adjust that slider until the file size shows under 100kb. Now give it a name and click on 'Save' and upload that image to the forum. If you have any spaces between the words of the file name they will be filled with an underline in the saved file making it easier to pick out the file for posting. Hope all this helps. If not just ask again. Gordon _________________ Why is there only one body to investigate Monopolies ? |

Re: Uploading Images
Gordon, Thanks for the info. Does this same formula work for larger projects such as the ones in the book? While I'm still messing with the wood pattern, I'm starting a book project this week. Is there anything I need to know concerning a) preparing the file for starting the project, or b) getting such a large file ready for uploading? Please accept my thanks for being instrumental in my being able to post things to the forum. Much obliged! |
