The best I could do with The Great Outdoors
I feel it's more illustrative than realistic, but it's my best attempt.

Hi Kate,

I haven't begon on this chapter, knowing I'll got problems with the thing you call illustrative. But I think that's the way Steve's work is to be recognized: an illustrative, rather than a realistic 'handwriting'. It takes the approache of Bert Monroy to get realistic with Photoshop. I like your Great Outdoors, with the sweet little pont and well managed fence. In reality white stripes in the air are awful, but in your picture I love it.

This is one of the harder exercises in the book, which is why it's towards the back. What you've done here is effective - but watch for things like making the tree too round, if it were more spread out and more randomly shaped it would look more convincing.

The only real mistake in here is the tree's shadow. No reason why it shouldn't have one, of course, but if it does then where are the equivalent shadows from the fence and the house?

You have a point, Steve. I'll do a bit more work on the shadows and tree.

Nice little painting -- I had troubles with this one as well not being much of a painter

A little correction on my earlier text. I refered to the realistic style of Bert Monroy (as if Steve could'nt reach those kind of finals). The bottlenecks here are of course time and deadline.
Here's what I ment: http://www.bertmonroy.com/timessquare/timessquare.html
