Challenge 282: More snow on the way
I usually create a file approx 8X12 inches @ 300ppi, so I have a large version to keep. Images are imported and converted to smart objects. Once complete, I save the file as JPEG or TIFF, the latter being non compressive. Bring the image back into PS and change the image size to 800 pixels on the longest edge and the resolution to 72 ppi. Click ok and go to 'save for web and devices'. Move the slider until the image is approx 95kb and save as a JPEG. I've just had a new computer built, so just uploading everything again. May have to sit this one out, but great work so far. Nick |

Thanks Josephine. I just used brushes for the icicles. http://pippi0615.deviantart.com/art/Icicle-Brushes-48949640 Then I applied a bevel and emboss, cant remember the settings but just play around with it. Then a drop shadow also. Make sure you put the icicles on a separate layer so you can manipulate them into place with transform. _________________ Dorothy: "there's no place like home!" |

Thanks for the caption ideas Anna and Debbie. So far, I think Josephine is looking a likely winner! |

I have only just noticed the key words 'I'd like to see a snowman' in Steve's challenge post! So goodbye Gordon! You have been replaced. Special thanks to Anna's link to some great icicle brushes. Just an idea for my own original caption: "What slippery slope is he heading for?" |

Pardon my stupidity - I downloaded and saved the iciclebrushes and clicked on the "open in photoshop" option but I can't find them anywhere - what am I missing? _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Challenge 282: More snow on the way
Josephine, Not sure this is the safest way, but with Windows you can copy the ABR file directly into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Brushes directory. After you restart PS, you should then be able to see the new preset set of brushes from the brushes window dropdown menu and then select/open ("replace" current working set) to use them (revert to e.g. presets or others using the same dropdown menu i.e. just the same as when changing between any other set of bushes). Same applies for CS2, CS3 etc, but need to put in their brushes subdirectory. Cheers, Trevor |

Re: Challenge 282: More snow on the way
Hi Josephine, You can put them in the correct folder like Trevor suggests but the easiest way is to load them from within Photoshop using the Presets Manager. Make sure the files are unzipped first. 1. Click Edit > Presets Manager. 2. Select the type of Preset (i.e. brushes) 3. Click Load... and navigate to your folder where you saved the brushes files. 4. Click on each file with the file extension dot abr in turn to load it. Voila. |

I'd certainly recommend this "proper" method from Sophie. Not safe my method. |
