Thanks again Steve

Sorry all, excuse, this response takes up too much space maybe.

A very interesting image from Jota120 - was the original made of snow, or sand? I'd be wary of building such a sculpture so close to the door, though - it does make going in and out something of a struggle.

True
Its made from marble mainly.

A really intriguing second entry - do people really do this? Why?

They really do! Some are vertical frozen waterfalls 100s m/ft high! e.g:

(Ice Climbing, Gorges de Ballandaz, Savoie, France Pictures Traveling photos)
Too scary for me on vertical ice in contact only with front points of crampons and iceaxes, and can't really rest anywhere. Further, the running belays/protection are just ice-screws screwed into the ice, not very secure often if were to fall on them and hope to be protected from further fall. Amazing! It is good training though for mountaineering in e..g. winter, Alps and Himalayas, But some of these guys do it just for the sake of it! Have to admire their nerve and their strength.

I prefer to stay in contact with the rock, or at least climb more moderate less extreme snow/ice climbs.

Have a good weekend all,
Trevor

A beautiful, stunningly lit image from wideangle, with his first Friday Challenge entry. It's a fantastic scene, with the snow perfectly buit up around the base of the wall. the vintage car adds mystery and intrigue to the scene. I like the footprints, but they're just a touch too well defined: some smudging would help here, and perhaps the sight of a little snow remaining at the bottom of the footprints. I like the second entry, with the falling snow - nicely drawn flakes! And the snowman in the third entry is charming, but watch your shadow angles: the light is behind him, after all.

Thanks for the critiq Steve. The lighting on the snowman and the footprints were exactly what I was struggling with but couldn't quite put my finger on it.
------
My struggle with the snowman lighting was deciding if the headlights from the car would be dominant for the shadowing vs the backlighting from the porchlight.

With the footprints, I think I had to much perfection in mind, overlooking the randomness of realism.
--------
I can't take too much credit for "Drawing" the snowflakes though, I used an image of thrown snow on a black background and changed the blending mode to screen, then scaled an duplicated copies of that until it looked like it was falling.

The snow on the ground was a similar thing, but I just painted a light solid gray, and used the texture of waves washing on a beach with a layer blending mode.

Here's a couple pics of the snow texture I used if anyone is interested.

Thank you very much Steve for your comments. I am amazed by how much you do for the photoshop artists. Replying for each and every entry, every week and then the rest of the forum and this is just a small part of your plate. Hats off to you. You inspire me. I should stop whining about why I couldn't reply earlier because I had so much to do.

Thank you for your encouragement. I look forward to Fridays now.

Thanks Steve,
I always am happy with your critics, Your sence of detail (specially with shadows! ) is second to none!
