Michael, thank you. Please do continue to try to make the building look more photo realistic, but there is a major hurdle you will need to overcome: to increase contrast and aid visibility while working I put strokes around nearly all the building blocks of the tower. These will need to be removed as they do not look natural in close up. To do this quickly you would need the source code. Dome alignment. During the whole project I made no change to the original alignment. Howerver, I have made all the building blocks completely vertical, so there is no vertical vanishing point. Here is a correction: ![]() |

Re: A problem for Mariner (and anyone else mad enough to try)
From time to time I did wonder where you got that original photograph from, expecially as you did not remove the iPhone 4s EXIF data. Problem solved. Oops! I just double-checked the EXIF data. The photo was taken on 13th May 2013, so probably no Big Wheel available. Helicopter? Very low flying plane? Drone? Hagrid? While researching I found this on Wikipedia: "At the end of the Second World War, on the eve of the liberation of Brussels, the retreating Germans started a fire in the Palace of Justice in order to destroy it. As a result, the cupola collapsed and part of the building was heavily damaged. By 1947 most of the building was repaired and the cupola was rebuilt two and a half metres higher than the original." That's why the dome was not being repaired, but I expect you knew that anyway. |

Anna, thank you again.
If I did that then Sue would say "Never again!". Joke. |

Apologies to any over-sensitive Belgian who objects to my putting vampire bats on their courthouse. |

Re: A problem for Mariner (and anyone else mad enough to try)
The photos and the historical background all came from the web (except yesterday's which are mine). The dates on the repairs vary from one account to another. Yes the dome was the first to be repaired but I think it underwent subsequent further restoration. Unless memory deceives me (which it increasingly does) it was scaffolded in 2003 when I started living here. Although if this is so I can't remember when it came off. ![]() I certainly won't live to see it without scaffold. Indeed I wonder if ever they will finish the repairs. Which is a pity because the interior is really breathtaking in places! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

I think it would appeal immensely to the surreal self mocking humour of the Belgians. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
