Advice / Comments needed please
I have put together the following image for the Hillsborough Justice Campaign. Its mainly going to be used in a signature block on Football forums to raise awareness of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign and might also be used to produce car stickers (obviously the flame flickering couldnt be replicated in a sticker, as Steve kindly pointed out to me )

I wanted some advice or critique from some of you as to how I could improve it etc . Any suggestions greatly appreciated, Thanks.

That looks good Chris, I like the flames (maybe you could get the stickers printed with a holographic animation? ).

My very limited design perception is at odds with the placement of the logo, I'm wondering if it should be biased more toward the left.

Keep up the good work, I'm sure it will be received well.

Cheers David. I think I basically plonked the logo where I did as I faded out the two images. The left hand image showed fans holding aloft the scarfs which I though was quite an impact. Just on the right hand edge was a chap looking the other way so I thought I would fade him out and use the HJC Emblem to splice the two together. Something didn't look right thats why I thought I would ask you guys. Cheers matey !

Hi Chris - coupla points
the flare behind the flame - is it meant to be centred or off centre? as it is, it looks slightly off. second, the quality of the two images is noticable, scarves a bit pixelated as opposed to the clearer badge.

otherwise a nice logo and nice image, would clean up the flames colour for a sticker though (try solid shapes as opposed to a blend - experiment to see how it looks) nice one

I think it works quite quite well Chris, I particularly like the way the flame flickers within the outline of the flame.

I did a few photos for the Hillsborough Justice Campaign some years back when they lobbied The Star offices in Sheffield after the atrocious reporting of the Hillsborough incident by our local "rag" who never apologised for the way they labelled Liverpool fans as yobs, even though the victims themselves were, of course, Liverpool fans.

I'm sure they would be very pleased with your banner, if my experience is anything to go by. The only thing I might suggest if you have a source picture is to include the Leppings Lane gate with all the tributes and flowers.

Thanks all for the advice. It was actually the 'Sun' Becky that wrote the dispicable piece called 'The Truth' ironically enough. If anyone is interested in finding out more they should visit http://www.contrast.org/hillsborough/. By a twist of fate I missed that game as my best friends Dad let us down with the tickets. As my parents were not fans of football I used to travel to the games with my best mate and his Dad. His dad promised to get us tickets for this game but due to work comitments he couldn't take us. It will stay with me forever.

Back to the image, I did think about the floral tributes that were laid out at Anfield rather than Leppings lane. I think images of Leppings lane would be far to painful for people to look at. I went with the fans on the terraces and the club as it gives a sense of what the club is about.

Glen, I did note the difference in image quality. It was difficult as I had to get rid of part of the image on the left. I might have another go and see if I can find a different image to put there as most people seem to think I would be best moving the flame to a more central position. Cheers all !

Yes, Chris The Sun did a national story, but I think you'll find it was actually the Sheffield Star that ran the first story and then sold it on to The Sun. As I said, I was there at the time of the lobby with The Hillsborough Justice Campaign, Chris.

Amongst the most vicious of reports of the Disaster was the Sheffield Star and the Yorkshire Post. It should be noted that these would be the two most widely read papers in the Sheffield area and therefore it would be hard to select a jury for the inquests that had not been influenced in some way by their version of the 'facts'. The Sheffield Star reported:

Many supporters were still propping up the bars at 2.30pm. They raced to the stadium arriving at the Leppings Lane end at the height of the crush. Some of them were the worse for drink, others without tickets were hoping to sneak in. Hubble bubble toil and trouble.. drunkenness and ticketlessness were now added to the equation. The Yorkshire Post continued the attack: Thousands of fans began the fatal charge? thousands of latecomers tried to force their way into the ground...

http://www.contrast.org/hillsborough/history/media.shtm

And as for including a picture of Leppings Lane I would think it more poigniant than upsetting, after all it's called the Hillsborough Justice Campaign and therefore a picture of Leppings Lane after the fans had left their mementos would be a reminder about what the campaign is about and not just Liverpool FC.

Apologies Becky I thought you were referring to the National paper 'The Star' . I never knew that the story had been bought from the Sheffield Star and I am sure a lot of our bunch don't either. I always thought the Story was written by Kelvin McKenzie the then editor of the Sun Newspaper. I was only 17 at the time, but since then I have not heard it mentioned ever. Its a very interesting fact which I will bring up. Thanks for that !

By the way I know fully what the Hillsborough campaign was about. You dont need to put it up in bold for me. I know it effected lots of people but it was the Liverpool fans that lost their lives.

Re: Advice / Comments needed please
The Sheffield Star, from my understanding and what I was told by the campaign, had fed The Sun the story who then added their own vicious slant to it. A few of the reporters from The Star alledgely went on to gain employment with The Sun.

At the time I didn't know what to believe, I was watching it in TV and hearing what the radio was saying and then in was all over the Star and The Sun the next day, I didn't learn the truth for a long time afterwards.

Anyway it's a good thing you are doing, good luck with it.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, or get upset about me highlighting Hillsborough, but the place where this happened is as important as the club the victims supported. This could have been any team, it could have been any stadium, it could have been anywhere in the world. However, it happened in Hillsborough and that shouldn't be forgotten because Leppings Lane is now a monument to our greater understanding of such incidents, it has become the focal point of Stadium Safety, to get all territorial about it is foolish. But I do think that for the Justice Campaign a picture of Leppings Lane is important. But that's just my opinion please don't get nasty about it.

Re: Advice / Comments needed please
were both correct. I just asked Robbie from the HJC and he said that McKenzie wrote the truth article himself and claimed an unamed police officer as the source. The Star as you rightly say wrote a similar story but were not vilified because they apologised. Thanks for that, I never knew that side of the story and I think its important to know all the facts. Cheers for the words of encouragement and advice as well

The trouble with email and web forums is that when someone says something its often misenterpreted.

At no point have I got nasty and agree with everything you have written. However, I thought you writing Hillsborough is bold lettering was a tad offence. On the contary I think I was pretty apprecative.

If you ask him he might show you the photos that I took from the lobby, presuming they still have them.

Anyway, I wasn't having a go honestly. Your banner is great and they should be really pleased with it.
