looking for critical feedback
Been away awhile...busy with writing projects. I recently finished a small montage that was embarassingly easy. I posted it at Flckr and got many compliments...but then I recalled, "What would the pros's say?" So, I'm submitting this one to your forum because it was very helpful before when I sent a prior picture...which I thought was done...and then I learned there was still more to accomplish... This image is called Violin Terror In The Cafe ![]() _________________ If you want to make God laugh, tell him/her your plans |

It's a good image, the masking is effective but surely there should be a reflection in the liquid? _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

Re: looking for critical feedback
Agreed a nice image but...... reflections in liquid aren't as mirror like as yours is though therefore some toning down would be more realistic I think. go on, make yourself a coffee and have a look. _________________ minds are like parachutes - they only work when they are open |

Re: looking for critical feedback
I think the violinist's floating on his back, immersed in the coffee, rather than reflected in it - or am I misreading it? |

That was my first thought too - I'm not sure I understand the fully significance of it though is the coffee decaffinated, roasted, instant or does that not matter - haha ![]() _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: looking for critical feedback
Yes, the violinist is, for me, floating on his back...If folks think I should add some reflection, could someone illustrate how that could be done? Please make the directions tall, 2 shots, no foam, with whip. _________________ Longevity is highly over-rated. |

Re: looking for critical feedback
Turn the opacity on the violinist way down. You should also see a slight reflection in the white of the cup, so fix that up. And, to be to Frank, I can't find any significance or meaning to the whole picture... What is a spooked looking violinist in a coffee cup supposed to signify? EDIT: I didn't realize he was meant to be IN the cup. That would change what I had to say alot. _________________ -Atomic |

Re: looking for critical feedback
okay thanks for the input...was trying to figure out if I should add a shimmer to the coffee...plus I didn't know how. BTW, the musician asked if he could use the image for a CD liner... _________________ The world is a comedy to those who think, and a tragedy to those who feel. |

Re: looking for critical feedback
I had a very quick play (hence the crudeness). To create the ripples: Create a new layer and draw an elliptical marquee roughly the same size as the coffee. Fill it with 50% gray and use the clouds filter. Use the zig-zag filter set to pond ripples. Add a little plastic wrap and set the mode to Hard Light and lower the opacity. Now use free transform to distort the ripples layer into perspective. Add a layer mask and remove the excess from the edges, then paint out some of the earea where the violinist is breaking the surface. Obviously it will look better than my 5 minute effort but you get the idea. ![]() _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

David, that's a really good quick fix! Adds a huge amount of life to the montage! And it's given me a great idea for another Friday Challenge… |

Re: looking for critical feedback
Hi everyone ! I have just recently registered to the forum. I am from Indiana . Photoshop has become my "thing" of choice to help me retrain my brain into the digital age. ( I have been in photography since 1981. ) All of you have great ideas ...................and what a great way to express them and share your help ! David's quick fix looks like a good idea. It makes the subject appear as though he is floating with his body submerged. Looks more real. have a good day ...... |
