I was working on a image to enter into a worth1000 comp. The task was to change the texture of something and I thought I would create an ivory elephant. However i misread it and the texture had to be metal!! doh!

However just wanted some feedback on how its progressing anyway. Needs some more things doing, some ivory tusks on the ground in front of it and the lower background adjusted to match the darker sky. But comments appreciated.

Re: gutted
I would maybe suggest a few subtle changes to make the elements of the picture blend together a little better (bearing in mind .. this is only one persons opinion) ....
In the version attached i have mainly made use of the blur tool (not the filter).
I softened the edges of the elephant and also softened the sky a little so it blends better with the, already blurred, background .. with the elephant I created a new layer and applied the plastic wrap filter ( a personal favourite - LOL) to the whole layer I then just quickly erased around the elephant so that it was the only element that appeared 'plastic wrapped' ... this can add some dramatic highlights but these can then be tweaked using various methods to dampen them down to fit in with your picture. The idea of this was to give the elephant a more synthetic look.
you can use the layer blend modes ... soft light is good for dampening effects i find ... you could also use the opacity settings or use the fade filter options from the Edit menu .. like everything in photoshop there are always more than one way to achieve the same goal.
I hope you find these comments useful.

Excellent idea, maybe use Steve's curves tutorial, add some more colors and lighting effects and stuff . I don't like Worth1000 that much, I think people there get there friends to vote for them, and I don't like their karma system. I might still go there, but I was disappointed my two entires scored below average. I'm trying some other sites with contest I like, of course this one is excellent.

Re: gutted
Hi Chris - feedback time then - nice idea, needs bringing together more though.

Lets start at the top, the clouds are pink (suggesting either sunrise or sunset) so would the river not reflect some of this pinkish hue, likewise the trees, elephant, ivories and ground. Also the shadows don't match, the elephants is sharp with good length for the time of day when the sun is low and to the left but the ivory tusks have a blurred shadow suggesting hazy light from above.

That's it - well you did ask, hope it was of help
