Re: Contest 11: Some answers on Q's.
Hi folks! Very nice seing you all again. Some q's seem to have arisen since my post and I feel compelled to answer them. Here goes ... Russ Davey: **Very nice, maybe you can introduce us? How are you finding Poser** I would be most happy to answer all your questions to my very best and give my opinion, but this is the Friday Challange forum so I suggest we take it to another forum. Any suggestions ? General Comments, perhaps ? Tabitha 1: **Just wondering how to compete with the current entries? ** Please, Tabitha 1, you mustn't see this forum as a competiton. It's not. It is a place for showing different ways of approaching a "problem" and show how you solved it. Nothing more really. From what I've seen so far of your entries you're doing stuff I couldn't do even to save my life. I'm mainly a 3D "artist" and thus use Poser for quick figure generation. I couldn't produce anything looking remotly human in Photoshop only. But I do use Photoshop - as most 3D'ers do - to put that final touch to the images. And that's what I did. So - apart from using a "third party application", I did what we all tend to do. I cheated ! ![]() Jiger. (Please forgive spelling and language errors. I'm a middle aged Swede so English does not come natural for me... ) |

Hi Daz, yeah you cant really see its Michael where all the plastic has fallen off, plus it looks more like a haloween mask than a convincing head, nevermind, bring on next week! |

Re: Contest 11: Rebuild the head
Well, that turned out to be a tricky one. I'd kind of expected some straightforward Frankenstein-style assembly of facial elements, but you've all taken this one with much more seriousness! Maiden, you really don't hang about, do you - straight in there in a couple of hours. You took the 'impossible' approach, and after a few variations came up with something really convincing. It must have been an enormous amount of work, so well done for that! Who knows, you may end up running your own forensic department. I wouldn't have thought it possible to make Michael Jackson any scarier than he already is, but Russ seems to have managed that. Mind you, he still looks better there than he does in real life. Looks like he's found a soulmate in MJ's grisly head as well - Thomas Harris take note, there could be a Hannibal Lecter sequel here. At first glance, you might think Atomicfog had simply bunged a new head on top of the old one. But watch the animated GIF, and yo'll see that he's got all the features in exactly the right place: he's used the original teeth, and even shaped the man's head so it matches that of the skull. I suspect a lot more work went into this than you might notice on first impression. Jiger, I think yours is the first Poser entry here. Great explanation of how you went about the task, and an impressive final result. Did you use the skull as a background image to match the angles? As you say, this forum is not so much a competition as a showcase for different approaches to the same problem. Very neatly put, I think you've summed it up nicely. A great closing entry from Tweaknik - don't know why, but you always seem to slip in at the last minute with a fresh approach. Love the blink in the second frame! |

Re: Contest 11: Rebuild the head
Thank you, Steve. I was a bit afraid you folks should find it too much of a cheat, using a program to generate an instant basic figure instead of doing the whole thing in Photoshop. Well, yes, I used the skull as a background. That's one of the functions in Poser that's handy - loading up a reference image as background. Alas, I swung the head slightly more to the left since the angle didn't really show the facial features to well in Poser. The rest was ( very ) free "brain storming ", weighting morph targets and finally putting textures, light and shade on in Photoshop. It was fun ! Jiger. |

Re: Contest 11: Rebuild the head
I have a feeling that my post earlier this week has been taken out of context a little. I meant it as a "funny" (Ok not that funny) reply to Maiden's post earlier in the thread about Tweaknik's excellent site of faces made in Photoshop. I do not think this is a contest, although I really think a little competiton spirit is always necessary, that is only human nature. Maybe, in future I should keep my SOH quiet, as not everyone may share it. |
