Thanks for the advice. This is the first time I've done this. I couldn't think of any thing else to do, so I flooded the place! ![]() |

Very nice Glen but the perspective of most of the items are out - but it's still a lovely image. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Heres my attempt for this week. I found it very difficult to come up with an idea this week. Love the Clockwork Orange one ![]() ![]() _________________ Eagles may soar high, but weasels dont get sucked into Jet engines. David Brent -The Office |

When I discovered that you're allowed to send in more than one entry, I got busy and attempted what I call "Parallel Universe Medical Off-Center. ![]() |

Re: Contest 20: On the waiting list
OK... Here's my rather late entry. Although blowing things up is really fun, I think I get more satisfaction from trying to create realistic environments from bits and pieces. I have no idea where the oriental theme came from, other than the fact that the first component that I found was the somewhat oriental looking door. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Contest 20: On the waiting list
So there I was, thinking I'd given you a rather dull challenge this week, and it turns out to be one of the best ever. Your inventiveness and skill never fails to amaze me. John-BoB was first off the mark this week, with a neat bit of redecoration - I particularly like the yellow clown coming around the corner. But watch those bright colours! I seem to remember this was a problem for you before. The purple paint and red banner are just too saturated to be believable. Glen's clowns are rather more sinister, as anyone who remembers Clockwork Orange will know. The graffiti fits perfectly, but the real skill in this one was adjusting the lighting and contrast on the hallway to match the extreme lighting on the droogs. Great work, Glen, you've made an ordinary scene really sinister. Beginners are welcome, johnwhite, especially when they show some skill - as you have here. It's a restrained entry, but no less competent for that: the view through the glass in the doors is compelling. I'd have toned down the exit signs a little, and a reflection of the view in the floor would have been a great final touch. Another first entry, this time from African - and what a great piece this is. Just goes to show that pretty views aren't always as harmless as they might seem. The cracks in the walls and the bloodstains are spot on, and the spray of blood from the gazelle is fantastic. Really great work. MJ has really worked on this one, and it shows - the addition of all those textures is a great effect, and really adds to the realism. Did you paint all that graffiti yourself, or was it sourced? My only slight quibble is with the angle of the bricks on the wall nearest to us, which doesn't follow the perspective of the view - but otherwise, a really strong entry. Atomicfog, your corridor is just downright beautiful. The glass walls are inspired, and the way you've smudged the grass up around the edges makes it look perfectly real. Making a view look like it's painted on a wall, rather than seen through it, is a tricky thing to do but you've achieved it perfectly. Top job. Now that David Asch is revealed as the man behind TrinityOfOne, we can see a definite upswing in the work. Look at all that detail: the perfect blending of the wall sign, great choice of typography (Gill is just so NHS), the reflection on the wall photo and the reflections in the floor: plus, of course, the fact that everything in the photo is in the same tonal range. This one really looks real. We always expect a different approach from uk2usadaz and this week is no exception. A great piece of blending there, and the recolouring on the photos makes them look good together. You seem to have - ahem - spent some time working on Miss Berry's ample chest there, getting rid of the original film title. That must explain the wobbly streaks. It's kind of refreshing when maiden takes time off from outdoing everyone to turn out a straightforward retouching job, but doesn't it work well! Funnily enough I've just painted my kitchen that colour. Great reflections in the floor, and I love the sheen on the plaque. And yes, adding the paint on the roller was a good idea. A nicely flooded hallway from Jeff Scranton, that rubber duck is a great foreground element. What makes this work so well is the fact that the water continues through the doorway: and you've got the horizon at just the right height outside. Nice work. I'm a big fan of the TV show Spooks, but the problem is that I record it and it always comes on after Laurence Lewellyn Bowen's ghastly makeover shows, so I'm forced to sit through the last five minutes of them. (For those of you outside the UK, don't ask. Believe me, you're better off not knowing.) Glen's entry is a brilliant pastiche, and the mismatched floor tile perspective sets the whole thing off nicely. Love those gothic doors, though. Ooh, and I must get one of those rhino heads for my hall... Real life hospital corridors are full of people waiting and beds, which is why ChrisPucci's entry rings a bell. Perspective works well until you hit the door - then what! Doors open in perspective, Chris, they don't lurch down off their hinges! Back to class with you. Some really fine overcrowding in Tabitha 1's hospital, with a really convicing crowd scene that cits the perspective of the corridor perfectly. Look at the plug holding the lettering to the wall! Great detailing, and the morgue sign at the end of the corridor says it all. I don't know, you wait months for a Jeff Scranton and then two come along at once. Although only the floor remains from the original corridor in your second entry, it's a great bit of perspective modelling. You've captured the ethereal, clinical sense of an off-world hospital clearly: you can almost hear echoing footsteps out there. Great approach, Jeff, and a really good execution. It may have come in at the last minute, but Brian Garrison's entry is absolutely gorgeous. The texture of the walls, the perspective, the choice of props, all lend an air of serenity and calm I wouldn't have thought possible in a hospital corridor. Brian, you've really done us proud there. Fantastic work. Thanks, everyone, for some really fine entries. |

Re: Contest 20: On the waiting list
I agree it does look obvious now you mention it Steve. I really struggled with this week. I also had a problem when I changed the image size, the detail in the faces of Bush and Blair disappeared and I couldn't seem to do anything to return it. Any tips ? _________________ I was here when things were bad. We finished second one year! Bob Paisley, RIP. |

Re: Contest 20: On the waiting list
Thanks to all for the kind words. I'm equally impressed with everyone's entries this week. Of course when I look at my own work all I can see are the mistakes. The highlights on the woman are a bit much, the top of the picture frame isn't smooth... I could go on. ![]() |
